My relationship to whoever you are...
Some years ago, I found that Human relations infringed upon my musical creation. The musicians I played with wanted my music to feel like them, my girlfriend took every song I wrote as a personal message, either complimentary or insulting and people who followed me as an artist wanted me to write what they dreamed of, and if it wasn't so, they were dissapointed and wouldn't hesitate to tell me, show me, and punish me morally for it. I had singing students who expected me to be an infallible yet approachable lord, and those who just expected me to be GOD. It slowly ate it's way through the pleasure of performing, through the pleasure of music. So I put up walls. I stopped playing with musicians and I stopped writing music. I started taking refuge in the interpretation of songs that touched "me". I would only play solo. I would only play where I wanted to. I didn't listen to requests because 'I'm not a juke box' and people always ask for shit that has nothing to do with who you are or what you play. I don't think of myself as some kind of a diva, I just don't care. I really, and sadly just do not care, if the song I do reminds you of some beatles tune you really like, or if you think I sound like I could do some obscure Irish folk song.... Look at my picture, DO I LOOK LIKE I PLAY IRISH FOLK SONGS? The long and short of it is, I might be a nice guy but guess what, I'm not a hero. Not theirs or hers or yours. What I am is honest. Honest in my singing, honest in my emotion and honest in my simplicity. All I ask in return is that you don't bullshit me.
