Band Bio:
The Big Heavy began in 2003 with Ben Slattery and Dan Perlman. Highly motivated, Ben and Dan went out and found their first drummer and began to assemble what would be known as The Big Heavy.
Over the years the Big Heavy has always dedicated itself to giving the crowd what they came for: Rock and roll. The Big Heavy's music is best described as hard-driving, energetic rock. The Big Heavy has packed The Middle East, Harpers Ferry and various other venues in and around New England. In 2006, The Big Heavy had the honor of opening for Virgin Records recording artist Yellowcard at The University of Massachusetts. Recently, The Big Heavy was voted one of the top ten bands in the area by outpacing hundreds of contestants from throughout New England and taking first place in the Semi-finals of the National Bodog Battle of the Bands.

Tim Day has already accomplished a great deal in the music industry. His songs can be heard on television and in film. Originally from Virginia, Tim worked in a coal mine crafting his voice while extracting combustible rock. At 19, Tim headed to Boston to pursue his dream. His ability to craft complex melody and develop lyrics with passion and meaning set The Big Heavy apart. Not to mention he's an animal on the stage.
Ben Slattery - Rhythm Guitar
Ben didn't find the guitar as a kid, the guitar found him. Before his death, legendary guitarist James Watsworth gave young Ben his guitar with the promise that he would never let it go. Over the years Ben has kept that promise. Playing with various accomplished bands in Boston, Ben crafted his skill on the stage. As guitarist for The Big Heavy, Ben lends his irreplaceable ability to perform, play and create music.
Dan Perlman - Lead Guitar
Dan acquired his first guitar at age 11 and was playing in blues bars by age 16. Declared a prodigy by local musicians, Dan relied on only his ear for lead work. As he matured he honed his skills, focusing on theory to compliment his already developed sense of music. Dan's searing solos and melodic phrasing add color to an already developed canvas.
Matt Karasch - Bass
Matt, an accomplished music teacher and studio musician hails from the mean streets of Boston. With an unquenchable thirst for music, Matt mastered the guitar, piano, and trumpet before tackling the bass. Matt's ability to hold down the groove is undeniable.
