  • Bio

The Bricktops started out as a side project that I was working on while I was recording with Kevin O on Franky Four Fingers (F3) in 2004. The name was initially a joke, playing on the F3 name also being a character in the movie Snatch., because there was no band and I needed a name to post songs on Myspace. The first album came from about five instrumentals that I recorded over the past year. The songs were going over well on the internet, so I re-recorded some punk songs in a surfy rockabilly type style to fill in the rest of the album. It sold a handful of copies, first of which being bought by Jake Saur, who I wouldn't meet for two more years. By 2006, F3 had kind of just fizzled away so I focused on The Bricktops. The "Surfabilly Blues" album was fun to record, but wasn't something meant to be done again. So when the second album was started, I decided it was going to be a pop punk album. "Phase II" was comprised of some old songs that we never did in F3 and some new ones I wrote. People seemed to like the new songs. Then I got an email from Janelle Jones asking me if I wanted to do an interview for "Loud, Fast, Rules," a big punk magazine. I met Josh a week or two before I did the interview and convinced Kevin O from F3 to try playing bass. We played our first show in December of 2006 in Ft Wayne, IN at The Brass Rail with The Goddammits and Lady Parts. In early 2007 we talked with The Goddammits about doing a split. We re-recorded five F3 songs and one new one "C.M.F.B." Jake Emissions from The Goddammits got Jake Saur to do the artwork. Around that time I learned that Jake had bought the first Bricktops' album a couple of years back. Jake's artwork was probably the best part of the cd. We released early summer of 2007. By the time the split was released we had already started working on the next album. These were all new songs written by Kevin and myself. We finished "Stay Home" by the end of the summer. Kevin came up with the name and it was perfect. The Ramones "Leave Home," The Queers "Move Back Home," and The Bricktops "Stay Home" because Kevin and I both hate going anywhere. After the album was released Kevin and I had a falling out and went our separate ways. Over the winter of '07 Josh and I recorded the four songs for the "All Roads Lead To Knowhere" split we did. We played one show with Jake Emissions on bass and found Andy soon after. We played a lot of shows with Andy but only recorded one song. Andy played on "School Is In," a Groovie Ghoulies cover we did for the "Let's Go Ghoulie" comp. We got Kevin O back before we played with The Queers in Ft Wayne in '08. Josh was leaving the band because he was moving, so we got Dougie from The Dewtons to do some drum tracks for a split we were working on. The split fell through with a couple of different labels, so we released the songs on "A Bad Case Of The Splits" along with songs we did on the other two splits.
