Beware Of The Cutter "Another night, another dark small Live House, but this time I'm not in The Brixton Academy I am here to see the Brixton Academy. A collective crowd of eager newcomers, loyal regulars, other band members and an ever increasing multi national contingent. We could keep this solely to ourselves, like the venues they play in, totally underground, but now it's time for Japan and the world to appreciate that they have one of the best kept secrets right under their nose. These boys really can cut it. The tunes, the musicianship, the performance and the down right enthusiasm are there for all to see. Their name, derived from a legendary UK venue means they wear their UK music influences on their matching sleeves. The ballsy, gutsy, staccato guitar based music has remnants of early 80's UK new wave, when new wave was new and good. Certain Scottish bands come to mind, early Simpleminds, Big Country, Orange Juice with the Fall and PIL thrown in for good measure. This is mixed with an appreciation of a driving good beat and bloody catchy songs. The guys themselves cut a dash, each performance introducing a new visual twist: tonight they all arrive with black gaffer tap across their mouths. High points include the complete and utter murder of percussion instruments and to end, the scissor hands killer: I Wanna Cut YourHair. They're small, they're Japanese but I predict that soon they'll be huge and they'll be Worldwide." D. Morgan. UK
