The Buffalo Builders are a new band with a long history. The connections between the band members span decades. The obvious one is the brothers Elliott: Jeremy, Simon and Ben that make up the rhythm section. Simon Elliott and Holly Andruchuk have been a going concern for over eight years. And Dave Marshall and Jeremy Elliott have played together in over a dozen bands, most notably touring with the Canadian roots rock band Staggered Crossing for ten years.
The Buffalo Builders played their first gig in December 2007 at The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern. The turnout was incredible for a first show, and the band was so inspired by the response that they decided to make an album. But where to do it? Seeing how Dave Marshall and the Elliott brothers both grew up with Anglican Priests for fatherss, it seemed fitting to record in a church, namely The Church Of The Messiah in Toronto.
There were many eyebrows raised when it got out that the band was recording in a church. All except Eric Bridenbaker, who ripped up his entire studio to record the three day project in the Church of the Messiah. Within minutes of setting foot into the church back in April 2008, Eric had an intrinsic understanding of his recording space - melding the perfect balance of ambience and rock. In November, with the experienced ears of Doug McKendrick the self-titled album was mastered.
With the project now completed some of the results are posted here on the Buffalo Builders Myspace page. The band invites you to take a listen, and if you dig it, help spread the word.
The album is currently only available at shows, and very few have been manufactured. Make sure to get one!
