The Canary Effect marks the debut of filmmaking team, Robin Davey and Yellow Thunder Woman. Robin Davey was born and raised in southern England, he is a musician, producer and film maker. After crafting music videos for his own band, he quickly started making a name for himself as a director and has since made videos for Disney, Paramount and Interscope Records. After meeting Yellow Thunder Woman at a recording studio in minneapolis 5 years ago the pair quickly conceptualised The Canary Effect, a way to bring awareness and understanding to the often misunderstood story of the Indigenous people of America. Yellow Thunder Woman is an artist, singer and film maker who was raised on the Yankton Sioux and Rosebud Sioux reservations in South Dakota. Youngest of 13 Children, she is the daughter of one time American Treaty Council Member and AIM Activist Greg Zephier and direct decendant of the Great Chief Standing Bear.
The Executive producers for this project are Dave Stewart and John Shanks. Dave Stewart is a member of the Eurythmics. His work in films includes the critically aclaimed documentary Deep Blues as well as countless movie scores including the recent Golden Globe winning song for the movie Alfie. Recently he helped concieve and organise the Nelson Mandela 44664 campaign to bring global awareness to the AIDS epidemic happening in Africa. John Shanks won Producer of the year at the 2005 Grammy Awards and has worked with many of todays leading artists including Sheryl Crow, Bon Jovi and Mellissa Etheridge. www.DaveStewart.com www.johnshanks.net
The Canary Effect takes an in depth look at the devastating effect that US policies have had on the Indigenous people of America. Using beautifully crafted imagery it presents a chilling case to what many believe is an ongoing genocide of the American Indian. Featuring interviews with some of the leading scholars and exponents of Indigenous struggles, alongside revealing insight from those who work and live on reservations today, The Canary Effect creates a link between the past and present in a unique way never before explored on film.
