Prominence is a quality that has gone by the wayside in the current age of alternative rock. The standard for instant success has become minor tweaks of the same old thing, a crude deviation of the old adage, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” and it becomes clear how easily personal sentiment becomes simply affectation. For Nathan Medina and the members of The Canvas Waiting, this is “broke”. Through stunningly personal lyrical inflections and lead by a sense of creativity straight from the soul, The Canvas Waiting has become a steadfast beacon for those in search of a “fix.”
Since forming in 2003, the Austin-based quartet has been a constantly evolving unit that has persevered in the face of setbacks and opposition. Through patience and unyielding faith, The Canvas Waiting has utilized their highly acclaimed 2005 debut, 'In Search of Beginnings,' as a foundation for captivating a dedicated legion of fans across the country.
Singer/songwriter Nathan Medina's compositions have a sophisticated yet humble element that strike a personal chord with every listener. Guided by Medina's melodic vocal stylings, Colin Campbell’s intricate guitar work maintains the harmonic balance of the music while a driving yet adaptive rhythm section of bassist Colby Hill and drummer Josh Rodgers binds together The Canvas Waiting’s infectious hooks and inspired lyrics which have fascinated listeners from all walks of life. The group’s emotional live performances are a prime example of this magnetism.
The band’s sophomore effort, ‘A Season’s Change,’ is slated for release in March of 2009. It is a collection of the most vulnerable songs the band has released to date, and with it The Canvas Waiting hopes to further build upon what they have started in Texas and share it with the world.
"Passion and energy run deep and steadily throughout the entire album. The indie rock style is one of both upbeat night driving songs as well as reflective and somber songs. 'In Search Of Beginnings' is an album you should not let go unheard". -www.TheAlbumProject.com-
"I would like to think our music contains a certain depth but at the same time is something that you will want to sing along to, both of which are becoming more rare in music today". -Nathan Medina, The Canvas Waiting-
"In a time when I so easily review a CD and then pass is along or let it sit on my shelf, I have decided that this one will actually be ripped to my computer and added to my CD wallet. The Canvas Waiting have made a fan out of me, which (partially thanks to MySpace) is an increasingly difficult thing for a band to do lately. This is a solid debut, and The Canvas Waiting will be a band to watch in the future". -Eric Pettersson, www.indievisionmusic.com-
"This E.P. is a testament to the challenges and transformations that the band underwent over the course of writing this record and how they found hope through their faith, their families and each other. Track after track of this seven song E.P. is filled with melodic rock and pop sensibility without ever compromising intelligent songwriting". -Matt Conner, CCM Magazine-
