"Much of the charm of, and pleasure to be gleaned from, the Cubical is that hearing their music is like stumbling across some dusty long-lost recordings of forgotten voodoo rockers, while seeing them live is apparently like being sent back to the 60s to witness the Doors at Whisky A Go-Go or the Stones at the Flamingo...Superbly "realistic", authentically 60s-sounding blues-wailing and jungle boogie with lashings of harmonica and psychedelic guitar."
(The Guardian)
"The rumble of Great White Lie is enough to make a listener fear divine retribution, hide the children and close the curtains."
(spin magazine)
"Out of tune guitars clang and the bass and drums shuffle just right enough to raise the ghost of willie dixon, track down captain beefheart circa safe as milk and have a chat with the la's. And the singer's raspy vocal might just shatter your lightbulbs."
(MOJO)
"Wilson makes Waits sound like Tiny Tim"
(The Guardian)
The singer of THE CUBICAL has possibly the filthiest voice since Captain Beefheart and Tom Waits were in their prime. This mind-warpin’ mutated blues fivesome from Liverpool clearly found the West Coast sound swimming up the Mersey and its bite sent them radioactive. The dual guitar work on tracks like ‘Edward The Confessor’ are extremely well executed, whilst recent download single ‘Baby Don’t Treat Me Bad’ sounds like prime Leaves/Standells. The debut album is due out later this year, produced by the really rather talented Dave Sardy. Don’t let it pass you by.(SHINDIG MAGAZINE)
If The Cubical aren..t absolutely massive in 2009 I will eat every hat in the grimiest milliners in Middlesbrough. ..Baby Don..t Treat Me Bad.. perfectly introduces the band..s immensely authentic late 60..s garage rock sound . Where The Cubical differ is that their music sounds like it was recorded live in a dusty studio in 1967 just as it should be. The guitars, drums, harmonica and, especially, the dirty, grinding lead vocals and excellent harmonies all display an authenticity that other retro acts just cannot touch.(culture deluxe)
Ever wondered what the intersection between The Beach Boys, The Animals and The Troggs would sound like?
Neither have I - Until now - and it, surprisingly, sounds awesome.
The Cubical dropped an mp3, their new single, in my inbox earlier. The song, titled “Baby Don’t Treat Me Bad” starts out with harmonies that you’d expect from The Beach Boys and as soon as lead singer Dan Wilson starts singing it immediately traverses into a mix of The Animals and The Troggs - which is a super combination.
you should definitely check these guys out as I am sure that you’ll be hearing more from them in 2009.

’Edward the Confessor’ - a corking bar room boogie of the highest order that manages to cross wire a vocal fused from the spliced DNA’s of both Van Vliet and Waits into a freewheeling smoking renegade of sound that’s both dirty ’n’ raw and primal ‘n’ gritty as though its just stepped straight from a 60’s freak beat scene, festooned with latino twangs and snaking riffs this honey prowls like a would be ’pulp fiction’ soundtrack throwback to combine elements of Reverend Horton Heat, Stray Cats with the primitive garage groove of the Standells.(losingtoday.com)

live they're just something else, a real-deal voodoo rock 'n' roll medicine show (electricroulette.com)
Bluesy, nasty, tribal, and completely refreshing. TOM WAITS better look over his shoulder......

In-your-face, bluesy garage-rock from Liverpool makes the perfect soundtrack for ambling, whiskey-soaked nights(signonsandiego.com)
This is psychedelic mutant garage blues which sounds as if Howlin’ Wolf had taken a particularly nasty acid tab, while the vocals would put Tom Waits to shame.(windmillbrixton.com)

"THE CUBICAL are a twangy assault of growling, whisky fuelled post-Doors drunkenness." (Manchestermusic.com)
"Demented surf rock meets jazz" (burnout magazine)
melted mutant blues riffs sloshing around gruff guttural barks with a stuttering spluttering rhythm section sneezing out their bastardised versions of R&B.

If this band aren't on the cover of the NME in a years time, then there's no justice.
