A lot of people think The Dark Beaks sound like early Flying Nun jangle pop bands like The Bats, Sneaky Feelings or the Verlaines. Those who don't mention those (imagined) similarities often just use words like "warm", "weird", "lush", "bubbling" and "beautiful" to describe what they sound like. What do you think?

The Dark Beaks come from Dunedin, New Zealand. Dunedin is on the south east corner of the South Island of New Zealand, elbowing it’s way into the sea where the south west Pacific Ocean and the Southern Ocean meet. Next stop, Antarctica.
Dunedin is known for producing alternative guitar bands and musicians. The Dark Beaks grew from this Dunedin tradition; their sound shaped by this southern University city's DIY attitude, indifference to musical trends and the isolation of living on the edge of the world.
They recorded their album "Spill Your Heart" themselves in a large basement room on simple (and some home-built) gear and self-released it to an appreciative audience of Kiwi jangle-pop lovers around the world:
