The Darkest Red is a technical death metal band from The Netherlands. Formed in early 2006, founding members Michiel Gossens (guitar), René Leijtens (bass) and Rick Lieffering (drums) set out to create a hybrid of different styles, adding black metal and 90's metalcore to a deep rooted death metal sound. Soon after, vocalist Aron Molenschot joined the band, making them truly ready to start constructing the impressive sound they have on display today. After recording a 3 song demo in early 2007, The Darkest Red began searching for a second guitar player and found Auke Visser (ex Blind Sight, Sengaia) more than ready to fill this spot, adding a higher level of musicianship to the band. With the line-up complete, they started working on their debut full lenght, and after giving out a teaser single, their first full lenght album "Destroy and Rebuild" was released in the first half of 2009. This album gave them a lot of positive feedback from press and public, opening up to a wider audience and giving opportunities to support world reknown metal bands such as Gojira, The Haunted, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and a 2 night direct support for Slayer. Just before they started writing their second full lenght, founder Michiel Gossens left the band but was soon replaced by Jaap Kouwenberg. With the line up complete again, The Darkest Red went on evolving to a darker and even more technical sound, exploring the boundaries of death metal.
