"Rock act the Dirty Sound opened last Thursday night at the Red-Eyed Fly, but it was hard to tell from the filthy set they unleashed. Their classic rock 'n' roll, in-your-face style was fortified with heavy country and punk rock undertones.
Reminiscent of the Old 97's, with country back beats and twangy influence, the four-piece band grabbed more attention with their sporadic punkish blasts. In contrast, the lead singer's acoustic guitar sounded surprisingly appropriate and gave the band even more country character.
Versatility and wide spheres of influence give the Dirty Sound exactly what their name suggests, but this isn't a bad thing. It's hard to find a band these days with an original sound and they've pin-pointed one. It's danceable, good for drinking, and maybe a fight or two, but give the Dirty a listen because they might be on to something."
