The Dolphins Fly were formed in Cornwall in 2000 by brothers Dave and Mart Marney.They found themselves taken to London in the following year after winning a competition in a National Magazine (Melody Maker), to record and album. After 18 months of living the Dream (or not, as they foolishly signed a really shitty deal in the excitement), the brother’s returned home alone to hone their talents as songwriters and play the southwest circuit acoustically.
After penning more than 50 new songs and building up an army of followers from the acoustic sessions it was time to reform the band and at the start of 2008 bass player Nick Gunn and drummer Billy Bowen became fellow Dolphins. From the first rehearsal the songs breathed with new life and the band meshed together very quickly with the help of this very gifted rhythm section.
With our warm harmonies, layered guitars, infectious grooves and soaring tunes we think we're a band well worth the effort to come and see live. There's always a lot of good energy filling the room when 'Songs from the Apple Tree' (our new album which has received critical acclaim in the musical press) is out there being played from the heart. So may we introduce the one and only The Dolphins Fly. Four West Country boys who shook the world (Well forever striving to anyway!)
