Social Activist and Promoter

ED DORSEY is the CEO of THEDORSEYTOUCH Promotions. He holds the belief that the industry needs to expand the parameters of commercially acceptable music and recognize the need for a greater equal distribution of wealth in the industry. New music is the lifeline of the industry and Ed believes that the major labels should be more involved on a grassroots level, helping to create new music trends instead of just jumping on the bandwagon after all the legwork has been done and cashing in on a few acts. In that respect, and due to a fervid passion for music and the artists that create that music, Ed Dorsey now works extensively with independent artists and independent labels.

ED DORSEY started his career in music when he was 16 years old, selling records over the counter at an underground record shop, A-1 Records. Situated in the basement of a dance studio, it was literally underground.

ED DORSEY has an Associate Arts Degree in Music Entertainment Management from The Art Institute of Atlanta and has studied Music Business Management under Louis Lewow. Ed also studied Broadcasting and Communications at the Columbia School of Broadcasting and was ‘Mr. Ed’ at Power 99 WAPW. Everything he has learned about radio, outside of college, was from the ‘Greatest Man in Broadcasting’, Anthony Sebastian.

ED DORSEY has over 25 years of experience working, in one capacity or another, in the music business. He has Gold and Platinum Certification from The RIAA, and has conducted exclusive, one-on-one interviews with The Rolling Stones' Mick Taylor and Tito Puente, a five-time Grammy Award winner.

ED DORSEY has been employed by numerous record labels, inclusive of: Arista; Relativity; Important Records, now RED; Grudge (RCA/BMG); DB Records; Ear Ache; Combat; and In-Effect Records. He has worked under the direction of Clive Davis, Chuck Gregory, Gordon Anderson, Barry Corbin and Danny Beard. He has worked his records to the following radio formats: AOR, CHR, AC, Country, Jazz, Modern Rock, College, Triple A, and R & B.

ED DORSEY has promoted, to radio, over 100 bands and artists, on behalf of the various record labels, including: Annie Lennox, Kenny G., Yes, Jeff Healey, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Sarah McLachlan.

ED DORSEY, among some of his other endeavors, has accomplished the following:
- been responsible for: tracking Sound Scan sales; ordering import and specialty product; setting up advertising and sales accounting with one-stops, import dealers, and indie distributors.
- been a singles buyer for Musicland, in charge of ordering hit product and working directly with label marketing reps on in-store merchandising and promotions.
- done live remote appearances, station promotions, radio production, copy work and voiceovers.
- directed marketing staffs in national radio, retail, and merchandising campaigns.
- been responsible for directing promotion staffs, located throughout an 11 state region, in securing airplay and increasing chart positions on new single releases to radio.
- been in charge of implementing and booking co-op advertising time buys between retail, radio, and show promoters.
- worked directly with the various artists and their management, as a liaison to radio, setting up interviews and promotions.
- traveled extensively on the concert circuit in support of bands and artists, marketing them, setting up backstage meet and greets, and working with local show promoters to insure maximum ticket sales.
- ran an intern program with The Art Institute of Atlanta wherein student interns earned college credits working under his direction.

ED DORSEY, more specifically:
- was the last official, licensed promoter for the legendary singer/songwriter, guitarist, and producer, Delaney Bramlett.
- was the promoter and chairperson for the 2007 New York Rocks/US Veterans Matter 9/11 Tribute, recorded at the Time Warner Studio in Staten Island, New York and broadcasted by Time Warner Cable to five million viewers.
- was nominated as the ‘2007 Most Annoying Client/Promoter’ by Vice President, Jon Rayvid of CMJ New Music Report trade magazine.
- worked for the Clearwater Chamber of Commerce Jazz Festival.
- has done extensive promotion in the mid-west for women’s safety shelters.
- has campaigned for the ‘Save the LP Promotion’ by Rhino Records.

ED DORSEY has held memberships with several organizations, including:
- Country Music Association Awards (CMA)
- Association For Independent Music (AIM)
- American Federation of Musicians (AFM)
- Hard Rock Express Cafe

ED DORSEY is also working on an autobiography, entitled ‘The Misadventures of a Record Promoter’.

ED DORSEY is the official promoter for the US Veterans Matter, headed by co-founder and CEO Lorrayne Mercer. He is professionally and personally managed by Michelle Tharpe, who is also the Operations Manager and Publicist. Contributing Editor is Kim Tharpe. THEDORSEYTOUCH is owned by Sherrie Dorsey, whom also has an extensive background in the music business as a past club owner and co-owner of a recording studio.

ROBERT DORSEY:
My Grandfather and Biggest Influence in My Life

Just The Facts:

ROBERT DORSEY served in two military patrol torpedo squadrons in the Pacific during World War 2. PT boats were the high-speed, heavily armed motorboats that zipped around the Japanese fleets with deadly results. A specialist as the squad photographer, Dorsey chose to pick up a camera to shoot the death and destruction as opposed to a gun. With his life at risk at all times during many attack missions, he watched and photographed in horror as many of his brothers-in-arms were majorly injured or killed. He served with PT Squadrons 7 to 11, which squadrons lost three boats and countless men. As a result, and in honor of his service for his country, Robert Dorsey won several declarations for his work and sacrifice.

Thereafter, Gov. Lawrence Wetherby appointed Dorsey as magistrate of Kenton County. Commencing in 1952, he was also appointed and served as acting Kenton County coroner. At that time the County did not have a forensic lab, so Dorsey referred pathology cases to Booth Memorial and St. Elizabeth hospitals. In more than one interview with the press, Dorsey stated, “I have always said we need a forensic lab in Northern Kentucky,” thus showing how right and forward thinking he was before forensic science was even taken seriously in fighting sexual and violent crimes and bringing true criminals to justice.

Robert Dorsey ran for Kenton County Sheriff on three separate occasions, losing narrowly on his third campaign on the ticket as a Democrat to the then Republican opponent. He also taught biblical history and sang in the choir of the First Methodist Church of Covington. Robert Dorsey was an activist for civil rights. He was also a member of the Grist Society, having written a tract on the history of Covington, KY in order to become a member. He was nominated as Grand Marshall of Kenton County’s 1980 Memorial Day parade. Sponsors said it was only appropriate after all of his community service.

Robert Dorsey lived out the last 10 years of his life serving the Kenton County jail as the Jail Chaplain, where he screened and assisted visitors, prayed with, and counseled otherwise despondent prisoners.
