The Friend is a band from Turku, Finland, which plays melodic indierock music, music that makes people dance. The band has refined for several years, but the final assembly of the quartet formed in the autumn of 2006. Despite its rather young age The Friend has played many spectacular shows in the southern regions of Finland.
"And there's more to come. All of our shows are worth seeing", The Friend proudly states.
In August of 2007, the band's debut EP "Sports" was put out. The production of the EP was so intense for the boys that Mikko, the guitarist, ate nothing at all when he was finishing the songs. The band comments on the EP, saying that you can get into an "I'm-oh-kay" -type of state of mind and just generally feel nice, while listening to the songs.
"The song Serious emancipates you from the seriousness of life. It's a love song, it's about a person, who by different events in life gets the idea that you shouldn't take life too seriously. And that's also what The Friend's music is all about. Streets Call is a vivid song rolling forward with a
disco-beat. Our songs are brisk, atmospheric, playful, three-and-a-half-minutes-long compact packages. It's overly melodic, rhythmic and Oh! so wonderfully tingling! ". The Friend comments.
In October 2008 The Friend finally managed to get their first music video done. This video for the crispy song "sparkling in the rain" was entirely the band's own production. The video was directed by the band's bassist Jaakko Kajan and it was shot at Mikko M. Koskinen's parents' living room.
The band invited some friends over to assist on the video which theme is a party at parents' house. At the location a young couple who were assisting on the video got so excited of the wonderful atmosphere that they started making out, to which director Jaakko quickly reacted by turning the camera on without the couple noticing. "lense on fire!", Jaakko chuckled out loud.
The wonderful atmosphere and people having genuine fun transfers really nicely through the video. By the time everything was shot, the "party" turned in to a REAL party and everyone started to have a ball. But unfortunate to some, vocalist Anders Vuorimaa lost his voice and couldn't make a sound anymore.
"I lost my voice due to numerous takes. I wasn't able to talk for a few days. But in the end it was actually a good thing for me, since I really started to think about things I say. I used to blurt out very stupid things. But nowadays, I never say anything needless." says Anders.
And surely the sparkling in the rain -musicvideo isn't a needless blurt. It has party, good time and rock'n'roll. Rock on, dude.

Tuli yllätyksenä takavasemmalta, mutta erittäin hienolla tavalla toimii tuo Sparkling. Etenkin falsettitaustat antaa biisiin hauskaa väriä.
Jos sulla on hetki aikaa, käyppä tsekkaamassa karmiva tarina siitä, kuinka biisi "Break Me to Pieces" syntyi, kasvoi, koulittiin ja heitettiin julmaan maailmaan susien revittäväksi. Biisi profiililla ja stooria blogissa.
