Enter your game application for a chance to win big cash and prizes, international media attention, plus a trip to attend the 2008 Tokyo Game Show, one of the largest gaming expos in the world!

Showcase your creativity and talents by submitting your game application on the MySpace Developer Platform. The winning application will be translated into English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean and made available for download by the global MySpace community – that’s more than 117 million people!

Your game will be promoted by MySpace and thrust into the international media spotlight when it is announced at this year’s Tokyo Game Show.

1. "TheGame08" begins on July 17, 2008 and ends on September 21, 2008 at 11:59 pm in each jurisdiction. The main timelines of “TheGame08” Contest are as follows:

  • July 17: Official Launch of "TheGame08" at ChinaJoy Expo, Shanghai
  • July 17–Sept 21: Contest Entry Submission
  • Sept 22: Finalists of "TheGame08" Announced
  • Oct 9: "TheGame08" Grand Prize Winner Announced, Tokyo Game Show, Tokyo

2. "TheGame08" is open to developers who are legal residents of China, India, Japan or Korea and are at least 18 years of age at the time of entry. An Entrant may be either an individual (1 person) or a team of no more than 3 team members.

3. To enter the contest, please summit your gaming application through http://developer.myspace.com (for India, Japan, and Korean entries) and http://developer.myspace.cn (for China entries). Once the gaming application is approved and published, please go to http://www.myspace.com/thegame08 and click on your country's flag.  On the country's page, click on the "Send Message" button and include the following information:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Application ID
  • Application name
  • Contact Number

4. The game application submitted must meet the following technical specifications:

  • follow the technical specs on the Application Guidelines
  • must be translatable into English; all the text that needs to be translated must be contained in a resource file.
  • must NOT contain material which is sexually explicit, obscene, pornographic, violent, self-mutilating, discriminatory, illegal, offensive, threatening, profane, or harassing
  • must be completely unique and must NOT be an existing published application
  • must NOT include mention or performance of any copyrighted media production
  • must NOT have been previously submitted to another Contest,
  • must NOT include 3rd party trademarks, logos, insignia, location signage, photographs, artwork, or sculpture
  • must NOT include 3rd parties/people, who have not authorized Entrant to display their image, likeness or voice

5. Application will be judged on: Originality: 25%, Technical Achievement: 25%, Entertainment Value & Appeal: 25%, and Innovation: 25%

Q: How do I sign up as a developer?

To sign up as a developer, first you must have a MySpace.com account. Log into your MySpace.com account and then go to http://developer.myspace.com/modules/apps/pages/ApplyDevSandbox.aspx and fill in the form completely. Q: How do you define a game application?

For the purpose of this contest, a game application is defined as a small application that possesses the key components of play, challenge, competition, goals, structure, fun, interactivity, and is governed by rules. A Game Application can be single-player or multi-player. It can be turn-based. Game Application categories include, but are not limited to the following genres:

  • Card games (Ex: solitaire, blackjack)
  • Board games (Ex: chess, mahjong)
  • Puzzle games (Ex: sudoku, crossword)
  • Trivia games (Ex: movie knowledge, pop culture knowledge)
  • Sports games (Ex: baseball, soccer)
  • Role Playing games (player assumes a "role" )
  • Action/Adventure games (Ex: shooting, combat)
  • Strategy games (Ex: war games)
  • Party games (Ex: music, singing)
  • Simulation (Ex: simulated life or pet )
  • Social games (Ex: give-a-gift, social interaction)

Q: How long does "TheGame08" run?

"TheGame08" begins on July 17, 2008 and ends on September 21, 2008 at 11:59 pm in each jurisdiction. All entries must be submitted during the contest period.

Q: Who can participate in "TheGame08" Contest?

"TheGame08" is open to developers who are legal residents of China, India, Japan or Korea and are at least 18 years of age at the time of entry. An Entrant may be either an individual (1 person) or a team of no more than 3 team members. In the case of teams, one (1) person must be designated as the primary contact and will be solely responsible for receiving communications from and communicating with MySpace. The primary contact also be responsible for the distribution of any prize(s) won by a team, if applicable.

The Grand Prize Winner of "TheGame08" will be announced at Tokyo Game Show 2008 and will receive US$30,000.

Q: Do I need to translate my game application into foreign language?

Every game application submitted for "TheGame08" contest must be easily translatable, so all the text that needs to be translated must be contained in a resource file. For the FINAL, the winning apps will be translated to English. After the final, the winning apps will then be translated to Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. MySpace will be able to provide localization help.
