“The Gift released “Vinyl” (1998) “Film” (2001) and AM-FM (2004) by their own label La Folie Records. With the huge success they had in Portugal they became a symbol for the “Do It Yourself” in the country. They sold out theatres, play in the bigger Festivals and shared stages with some of the big acts...
In 2002 with Howie B on the production of “Film” they went to SXSW Austin Texas and in the same year they went back to States to perform at New York CMJ Festival and other USA clubs in east coast cities. In Europe, Spain was the “next stop” with a good release and great tour – more than 50 shows. In France the band played “La Cigalle” in Paris and did some European festivals like PopKomm-Koln, Eurosonic-Gronningen or Midem-Cannes.
In 2003 The Gift came back to USA and opened for Flaming Lips “Yoshimi battles…” Tour and did some good shows on their own – “Mercury Lounge” and “Knitting Factory” New York, “Spaceland” and “Knitting Factory” Los Angeles, San Francisco’s “Slims” or Boston’s “House of Blues”. The band closed the year with the recording of an “MTV Live” in Milan, Italy.
With the AM-FM album the band had a V2 contract in Spain and Universal Records distributed the album in Portugal. In 2004, the band continued the Portuguese and Spanish tour playing all the Portuguese big festivals and Spanish Sonar Festival in Barcelona among other important festivals.
One year after, they came back to USA to perform in “Musexpo Festival” at Key Club Los Angeles, performed at PopKomm Berlin, Prague Festival Move and did some London shows in clubs like Borderline, Cargo or Spitz.
At the “Lisbon’s MTV European Music Awards 2005” The Gift received the award for Best Portuguese Act, ending an extraordinary year with two 1 hit singles on the Portuguese radio airplay.
During 2006 the band went to Brazil where they perform venues in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Curitiba and Recife Festival “Porto Musical”. Back in Europe they went to Berlin Popkick Festival where The Gift performed with German singer MIA and by the end of the year the band released “Fácil de Entender ” – a new album/dvd where The Gift plays Live the great songs from previous albums with new mixes and aesthetical approaches, along with three new studio bonus tracks. The album will be released by March 2007 January in Spain. In both countries EMI is the partner to distribute and promote the album/dvd.”
Meanwhile, The Gift shared the main stage of Super Bock Super Rock with Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, Klaxxons and Magic Numbers this last 3rd July and more festivals and venues will come till September 2007

Please check out three of my new songs, which were taken from a recital, recorded live, without a microphone or any other source of amplification, at Escola de Música do Rio de Janeiro (Music School of Rio de Janeiro). The poem was written by Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa and the music was composed by maestrina Patricia Lopes. Semi-classical song, with special harmony and melodies. Delicate voice & piano tunes.
