Since their inception in the fall of 2006, The Haunted Windchimes have since traveled cross-country, released three- albums, graced the cover of the Colorado Springs Independent, pioneered an indy record label, received radio airplay locally and abroad, and have shared the stage with the likes of headlining acts such as; Devothcka, Magnolia Electric Co, Martha Scanlan, David Dondero and more.
Hailing from the Rocky Mountain town of Pueblo Colorado, The Haunted Windchimes are a musical concept born from the first conversation between vocalist Desirae Garcia and singer-songwriter Inaiah Lujan in reference to a set of mysterious wind-chimes that would chime without a hint of wind. Through the static of the Colorado Phone lines, The Haunted Windchimes took form through the ghost towns of the mind, where the music is of the haunting kind. Adam Leech from the Colorado Springs Independent wrote, “Not since the infamously troubled troubadour Gram Parsons collaboration with Emmylou Harris, or the legendary duets of Johnny Cash and June Carter, has there been a more evocative, magnetic and captivating folk duo. Seriously.”
From this ghost hunt, an Album was born and given the appropriate name “Ballad of the Winds.” These songs of wind, allow you to drift through tales of death, rebirth, love and revolution. Released in the spring of 2007 by Minneapolis based Indie label “Peddling Records”, The Windchimes thought it was about time to put on their traveling shoes and share their music with the rest of the world.
May 10th 2007 marked the beginning of The Windchimes’ 90 Day Summer Tour. “We hit the road with just a couple of guitars, suitcases and our dreams to share the haunting.” With the wind at their backs they headed east, towards the rising sun and wandered through the ghost towns of Omaha and Lincoln Nebraska, Brookings South Dakota, Minneapolis Minnesota, Madison Wisconsin, Bloomington Indiana, Nashville Tennessee, Atlanta and Athens Georgia, and Ft. Worth Texas. All the while sharing stories and songs on stage; in bookstores and backyards, bon fires and open mics, living room floors, basements and front porches. Playing atop parks and national monuments, on couches and rocking chairs, on hills and lakes, mountains and staircases.
With the huge success from their 2007 summer tour, The Windchimes retired to their rocky mountain home to begin work on their second album. In Mid-August 2007 "An Evening with the Haunted Windchimes," was born, combining all the major strands of American music into a unique blend. Shortly after its release, The Windchimes added a third member, talented singer-songwriter Chela Lujan, giving the band a more dynamic vocal arrangement and the three part harmony they have become known for. In Late August 2007, The Windchimes lent their voices to a new project dubbed "The Mexican," and worked closely with founding member Ravi Trujillo on the 7 song EP "Funeral Pop”. Featuring songs about Life, Death, Murder and Rebirth.
In the winter of 2007 The Haunted Windchimes escaped the cold Colorado winters for the beautiful scenery and magical oceans of Honolulu, Hawaii. While in Hawaii The Windchimes hooked up with "The Mad Genius Producer," Pierre Grill“ to begin work on their third album. Pierre Grille recorded and helped conceptualize the 4 Song EP "Verse/Visa." Pierre also lent to the album his stunning piano playing and exceptional accordion skills, giving the Windcimes their most popular album to date.
Receiving much notoriety from local media such as Colorado College’s KRCC radio station, Pueblo’s P.U.L.P Magazine and Pueblo Chieftain, Colorado Springs Independent and the Denver Westword, new and exciting opportunities arose for The Windchimes. In the summer of 2008 The Windchimes teamed up with the Mexican for a split cd release and a six-week tour promoting their new homegrown indy record label, “Blank-Tape Records.” Upon their return, the Colorado Springs Independent deemed their summer tour worthy of a cover story, Bill Forman wrote, “They have the charisma, talent and originality to hold their own against the Monolith Festival's headliners.”
With the addition of Banjo played by Chela Lujan and Baratone Ukelele played by Desirae Garcia, The Windchimes also added a fouth member, bassist Sean Fanning giving them a fuller sound and their current lineup today. In October 2008 The Windchimes teamed up with local Blues-Rock duo and record label-mates “The Jack Trades” and introduced “The Trade-Winds” to the world, sharing the stage with Devotcka at Colorado College’s Armstrong Hall, playing to a sold-out crowd.
Currently The Windchimes continue to play constantly, locally and abroad, and have begun work on their fourth album “Honey-Moonshine,” scheduled to be released by Blank-Tape Records.
"The Windchimes are, beyond a reasonable doubt, one of Colorado's most significant musical treasures."
“I've met hundreds of musicians and bands from near to far (and not just on MySpace). I even hung out with Daniel Johnston and Kimya Dawson, and got to talk on the phone with my hero, Gogol Bordello's Eugene Hutz, for 15 minutes. But honestly, I can't think of anything more incredible than befriending the Haunted Windchimes.”
“Not since the infamously troubled troubadour Gram Parsons collaboration with Emmylou Harris, or the legendary duets of Johnny Cash and June Carter, has there been a more evocative, magnetic and captivating folk duo. Seriously.”

"In many ways, they are aiming much higher, placing music and community first, creating a compelling, original repertoire and paying homage to the artists in whose footsteps they follow."

- Bill Forman, Colorado Springs Independent
"The Haunted Windchimes paint an evocative and compelling musical picture with familiar hues of folk, blues and Americana."
