THE HOT TODDIES formed in 2004 while relaxing on a beach in Mexico, heavily under the influence of Tecate and tequila. Heidi and Erin began writing songs, and Jessica and Sylvia joined the band in the fall of 2005. Blending 60's pop, doo-wop, and beautiful harmonies, they are a fun loving group of four girls from Oakland who play drums, guitar, bass, and keyboards and sing charmingly about being bad. Check out their debut album, Smell the Mitten out now on Asian Man Records!! Buy it here below in the Merch Store, on iTunes and on Amazon.com!
Reviews:
"Oakland’s Hot Toddies are so retro, smart and sexy, you’d think they were Japanese." - Seattle Weekly
"The Hot Toddies are doo-wop bubblegum pop revivalists that proof that you can be cool and cute. Their album Smell the Mitten is packed with smart infectious tunes that are like a freak summer breeze in the cold winter."
- Here Comes the Flood
"Four young ladies from Oakland who sweat prettily while romping through tough treacle like “Sugar Daddy” and “Anais Nin vs. the Pirates of Santa Cruz,” they do fresh, engaging and altogether delightful noise-pop with odd, punky lyrics about being horny in Seattle and matters of suchlike pith. A rare treat and I commend their album, Smell the Mitten (out on Asian Man), to your palpitating attention." - Ron Garmon, LA City Beat
"The Hot Toddies are the best thing happening in Oakland, CA, especially since the Raiders are in such shambles. But even if the Raiders were playing in the SuperBowl, The Hot Toddies would still be O-town’s hottest band. On the band’s debut album, Smell The Mitten, they mix everything you love about the Wall of Sound, garage rock, Japanese pop, and power pop into one uniformed sound that is as funny and clever as it is rocking." - Pop-Rock Candy Mountain
"Oakland girl band The Hot Toddies mix 1950's beach movie pop with soft indie rock, hard whiskey and a dry sense of humor. The song "HTML" is neo-retro code-romantic." -M. Myers, KEXP
"Four cute girls singing about being bad and horny. Could there be anything better? Casio tone keys, barbershop-style harmonies and retro-surf pop guitars soften the edge a bit, but once you decipher the silly lyrics, you'll be the hot one." - Owl Mag
"The band’s debut full length album, titled Smell the Mitten, meets the expectations set by the EP and singificantly one-ups it. The same great elements are there–the vocal melodies, tight songwriting, and funny and sweet lyrics–but they’re joined by a more full production sound and some instrument experimentation. As a result, Smell the Mitten is really terrific, an exciting album that should bring The Hot Toddies further well-deserved attention." - The Bay Bridged
"The Hot Toddies are a pop band from Oakland, California, their first full-length album is called Smell The Mitten… and they are fucking pheonomenal. Too varied to be traditional twee ...they’re good enough to make all but the most jaded of pop fanatics say to themselves “Where has this band been all of my life?” - RetroLoFi.com
"[Rocker Girl]... is a great example of the vocal capabilities of this amazing band. With unison melodies that break into harmonies half way through to piggy-back catch lines, this song is full of color. The climax near the end is complete with heavily distorted guitars and the full group of vocal harmonies. Yes. yes." -Deli Magazine
"... The Hot Toddies craft upbeat indie-pop rhythms with a dash of retro-rock and barbershop style harmonies that are almost too catchy. Oh, and they're hot too." -Synthesis Magazine
"The quartet offers ... sweet multi-part vocals and gritty guitar hooks. ... "Seattle" may be the funniest and sexiest tour song ("It gets so hard without someone to straddle/ I get so horny when I'm in Seattle"), while "Jaguar Love" ("So let me take you for a ride/ You might get laid") sounds like the kind of grrrl-empowered rock that '70s icon Nikki Corvette used to make." - SF Weekly
