The Illersapiens are a seven piece hip hop collective from South London. The band promote positivity and freedom of speech, which is reflected in the crowds they attract and the energy and vibe of their live performances. Their night at 'Upstairs At The Ritzy' is a display of their material and also hosts an open mic segment giving other UK artists and musicians the chance to showcase their own talent.
With songs such as 'Brixton', 'Skank Away' and 'Crime In The City', The Illersapiens show a range of styles which are positive but entirely relevant. Growing up in south london the Illersapiens style is continually evolving and embodies a colourful hybrid of music.
From Reggae to Broken beat, House to Jazz, their musical influences are in everyway freshly and personally interpreted creating a distinctive London sound. With established artist Katy B of Funky House fame, Mr man who regularly performs abroad and a back line who are all classically trained. The Illersapiens are a young, talented band with a innovative take on UK Hip Hop.
Mr. Man aka. Ami man
Is the recent winner of Radio 1's Ras Kwames 'I Love Live' freestyle competition, he has a considerable following in Holland and has worked with the likes of Bugz In The Attic and Dj Sysez.
Louis The Drummer
Has performed on both The Jonathan Ross Show and Live With Jools Holland. Played on Richard and Judy, GMTV and TV shows in Ireland and France. He has played on Ras Kwames Radio1 show for Sky Montique and was formerly the drummer for top selling artist Adele. He has performed at Glastonbury 2007 and 2009.
Ollie- The Guitarist
He is the musical director of the band and is a musical teacher by day. He has played at Ronnie Scotts,Roundhouse and on Howard Goodhall's Radio 2 show. He is the winner of 'The Young Musician Of The Year Award' at the Center For Young Musicians (CYM) and has sessioned for artists signed to the Rough Trade label.
Pierre - Bassist
He is the winner of the Paul Rich Award for Composition in 2008. He has played Glastonbury 2008 and 2009,Featured on Howard Goodhall's Radio 2 show and Played on Charlene Soraia's Debut E.P (Reached number 1 on iTunes folk chart).
Katy B - Backing Vocals
Numerous house, Drum n' bass and funky House releases on Bingo, Rinse, Jelly Jams and Ministry of sound labels. She has performed at numerous venues such as: Hammersmith Palais, Scala, O2 academey Islington, o2 Brixton academy, Matter, Indigo o2, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Glastonbury.
Callum - Sax
He has played with the merton youth Jazz Orchestra at the Montreux Jazz Festival on the parc vernex stage, Also at the Royal Albert Hall and at the Wimbledon Tennis Chapionships. Has also performed at the Canizaro Park Festiva and was the resident saxophonist at the I wanna funk you events. He is about to study Jazz at Leeds College of Music.
Dom - Percussionist
Is an amazing musician with a talent in piano, guitar and all percussion instruments. From the Bongos, Tamborine, djembe or congos. He has featured on Ras Kwames Radio 1 Show and has also performed at the illustrious venue The Roundhouse.
