The Imponderables's Comedian Bio
|
| Bio | In March 2004, The Imponderables - Dave, Eric, Jon, and Tony - made comedy news by becoming the first independent comedy troupe in Second City’s 30-year history to headline alone on the prestigious mainstage. They took that opportunity, and turned the sold out run into the 2005 Canadian Comedy Award for Best Sketch Troupe.
Flare Magazine has called them “The hottest Canadian comedy troupe since Kids in the Hall”, and CBC radio has referred to them as “The best troupe show to hit Toronto’s comedy stage in years.”
Since their inception in 2001, The Imponderables have been on three successful national tours. They won ’Pick of the Fringe’ Edmonton 2002, ’Pick of the Fringe’ Toronto 2003, and the ’Just for Laughs Best Comedy Award’ at the 2004 Montreal Fringe.
Other memorable shows include the New Years Eve Massey Hall Extravaganza, ’Talk of the Fest’ at Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival, the legendary Horseshoe Tavern (opening up for the Rheostatics), the Chicago Improv Festival, Shaun Majumder and Friends, two episodes of the Toronto Show, and as headliners for the Toronto Sketch Festival.
"The Imponderables have won frequent comparisons to the Kids in the Hall, mainly because they are young, charismatic, and often absurd...while the comparison is flattering, it’s a little off. The Imponderables are more like SCTV and Monty Python. Like SCTV, their humour springs from the broad, perfectly honed characters and, like Monty Python; their comedy has an obtuse point of view punctuated by manic physicality." Andrew Clark, the Toronto Star.
The Imponderables appeared on the CBC Sketch Comedy Special with Kevin McDonald (Kids in the Hall), have been featured on numerous episodes of Much Music’s hugely popular shows Video on Trial and Listed, hosted the 2nd night of the 2006 Gemini Awards, and were guest award presenters at the Music Awards in Hamilton Place.
If all that isn’t enough, in July 2007 The Imponderables became the first ever sketch troupe to become headliners at the Laugh Resort; a club that over the years has hosted various celebrities like Adam Sandler, Ray Romano, and Ron James.
Most recently they’ve gone into co-production with Rocket Ace Moving Pictures and Strada Films, and in a short period of time, they’ve established themselves as a major Internet presence with their unique brand of comedic sketches.
Their video shorts have been featured on the show Online Nation on the CW network, the CBC show Exposure, as reoccurring guests on G4’s Attack of the Show, on Yahoo’s highly popular on-line show 9, in the Top 10 of most viewed videos on YouTube, and on the front page of Break.com, funnyordie.com, collegehumor.com, break.com, justforlaughs.com as featured talent.
The biggest nod in their short careers came in April 2008 when they were featured in Entertainment Weekly Magazine as their choice for Web Obsession of the Week, and as the Top Video of The Day on TVGuide.com. | | Website | theimponderables.com | | Influences | SCTV, Python, Kids in the Hall, Little Britain, Pure Hoopal, Sabotage, Saturday Night Live (late 80’s, Early 90’s), Ali G, Gary Larson, The Office, The Onion, Police Squad etc etc etc | | Members | Dave, Eric, Jon, and Tony | | TV Shows | Toronto Show / CBC: Sketch with Kevin McDonald / E - Talk Daily / Much More music / Truthhorse |
