I/O is a contemporary music's project which mix the different background of the members through the technique of improvisation. The result is an original sound in which is possible to get a glimpse of minimalism, free-jazz and de-structured rock.
I/O is the sum of two well defined half: one-half is acoustic and it is composed by doublebass and drums, and the other-half is electric, filtered and with real-time samples, and it is composed by voice and guitar.
After the release of the first album, in which the ensemble has been explored the rarefaction of the sound and its timbers, the band focused its attention on the “pulse” concept: the complex and de-structured rhythms become the framework of the I/O
sound.
An evidence of this process is the new album “Polytone”, released by Ebria Records and Fratto9 Under the Sky records and distributed in Italy by Jazz Today.
I/O has been played in many festivals, clubs, squats, cultural associations and art galleries with different artists like: LIARS (US), Damo Suzuki's Network, OvO, ZU, Giuseppe Ielasi, Sinistri, Tasaday, Tiziano Tononi, Uncode Duello and many others.

INFO: Spatial Impulse Response Rendering (SIRR) can be used to reproduce room acoustics with any multichannel loudspeaker system. In SIRR the time-dependent direction of arrival and diffuseness of measured room responses are analyzed within frequency bands. A multichannel response suitable for reproduction with any chosen surround loudspeaker setup is synthesized using the analysis data. The resulting loudspeaker responses are used in a multichannel convolving reverberator, and the synthesized responses create a natural perception of space corresponding to the measured room.

Here are three workshop ideas: Ensemble Free Improvisation Workshop Successfully improvising within a large ensemble requires not only a high level of musicianship but also global listening skills and sensitivity to the group dynamic. This hands-on workshop will explore the different ways to approach free improvisation, using examples from the work of Sun Ra, Anthony Braxton, John Zorn, and other artists.
Structured Improvisation: Zorn, ROVA, and Beyond In this workshop, we will explore a variety of group improvisation strategies developed by John Zorn, Butch Morris, the ROVA Saxophone Quartet, and others. The focus will be on the use of hand cues, developing collage form, creating and using graphic scores, and concept pieces.
Finding New Voices in Drums and Cymbals There are many ways to get sound out of drums and cymbals than by just hitting them. In this workshop, I will demonstrate how I coax sounds out of percussion instruments using a variety of common materials (bows, ebows, rubber balls, wooden sticks, rosin, and vibrating implements) as well as found objects.
