About The Jazzinvaders
Club credibility comes from years of inspiration and hard work, and Phil Martin, the creative captain of the Jazzinvaders knows exactly how to get there. From his musical vision, the Jazzinvaders have already reached and touched so many musical lovers globally, from those who dare to go beyond your everyday club scenes, to those who look beyond the spectrum of jazz aficionados. Today, the Jazzinvaders are spreading their message even stronger.
From his studio, Phil Martin (also the band's drummer) created the basic tracks, while adding all kinds of input from the band, from themes and arrangements, to solos, lyrics and structures. With a debut album that instantly turned into a club hit, the expectations are high, but raising the bar is in the nature of the beast, and the collective chemistry works really well. Having to choose from 20+ songs, all of the band's best flawlessly fitted in one glove. It leaves no doubt, that the Jazzinvaders' spirit has grown tremendously since they've been touring for the last two years (also in Japan). 'Up & Out' already showed that Phil Martin can bring out the best out of his team, but 'Blow!' is above all, a group effort. Most of the members are top notch, multi-awarded jazz-soloists, but with the Jazzinvaders they deliver their strongest work to date. Since the beginning, also the role of the computer as an extra and variable band voice, falls more and more into place now, with jazz-like parameters like dynamics and all the improvisation that happens on the spot. Ultimately, the Jazzinvaders should be experienced raw and fresh, on a club date or festival.
On 'Blow!' the Jazzinvaders obtain new territory, but only to ignite their appetite. They smoothened their suits, but not their music. The Jazzinvaders' horns sound more fierce than before. Or mellow, if that is what the music asks for. On the front, alto-saxman ROLF DELFOS hits you right in the face with his bravoure and virtuosity, and he might surprise you as he whispers his sweet notes, too. JAN VAN DUIKEREN is easily one of Europe's best trumpet players, combining super chops with extremely swinging solo's, melodical mastery and stunning compositions. TOM BEEK's classy and uberfunky tenor-sax sound is one of the most sought after in Holland, but there's no musical place his horn blossoms more than here. Singer LINDA BLOEMHARD adds a special flavor, not only in words and sound, but through her mere presence. The subtle groove and harmonies of pianist ERWIN HOORWEG not only tickle your imagination, but also your dancing shoes. The heart of the group in many respects is drummer PHIL MARTIN, with his superb dedication to sound, groove and feel.
Additionally, 'Blow' features some extraordinary guest appearances. The Dutch singer FRANK MONTIS on Day by Day, the English guitarplayer EDDIE ROBERTS (of the New Mastersounds) on Art Mbekie and the Italian singer STEFANIA DIPIERRO (of Nicole Conte) on Canção Pequena.
About Phil Martin
Imagine a simple rural living situation and the lively background of a large family, where life is undividedly connected with music and dance.
It's a family of good musicians and dancers where Phil Martin was raised up. He was strongly influenced by his father, a reputable bass player, who introduced him to all kinds of music like jazz, soul and funk.
Phil Martin not only listened to music but also started playing the guitar and drums as a child. When he got a job in a recording studio, he got involved with synths and samplers. Here he started to create his own music with the use of his father's old collection of rare funk, jazz and afro beat records.
Phil Martin about DJ'ing
I started (seriously) dj-ing about 5 years ago. Around that time there wasn't any place in my hometown where I could dance to the music I liked. So I did what I thought was best: starting my own dance night together with my best-friend. We called it The Beat Club and now, many years later, it's the most successful monthly dance event around. The Beat Club reflects the way I think dance music should sound like. I call it roots music, music that comes from the heart, not the mind. It's music that has always got some jazz, funk, Brazilian or African roots in it.
The most difficult question that people can ask me is: 'what kind of music do you play as a DJ?' I don't have a certain style I guess. I basically play any music of which I feel is 'real'. So when you hear me DJ-ing, you can dance to rare funk, jazz, dub, disco, hiphop, afro beat, samba, Latin. Roots music that is! So I guess I have a style after all! Yesss.
I love playing with the whole band, but sometimes that's not possible. Still I love the interaction with musicians on stage, so I ask all these great musicians to play along while I'm spinning some records. It's really fun to do and the crowd goes crazy with it.

Kaleta & Akoya Afrobeat The Spirit Of Fela Is Alive & Well Mukatsuku Records 4/5 An explosive slice of Afrobeat from Kaleta gets the licensing thumbs up from Mukatsuku, who finally get this gem to the Fela faithful. Originally clocking in at over 14 minutes, its been chopped virtually in half to add more punch and immediacy, whilst on the flip Guynamite and label boss Nik Weston add a more contemporary boogie house twist to the original, in doing so losing none of the vitality or the 'Fela' essence.
