Sounds Like
The Josh Martin Band's music is hard to categorize. Southern Gospel influences shine through the vocal melodies and harmonies. Country & blues riffs are mixed with rock 'n roll electric guitar and a jazzy rhythm section. Each member's influences and backgrounds can be heard through their individual parts of every song.
Their song selection is as diverse as their sound. The band is as comfortable playing praise & worship favorites at youth retreats and church services as it is giving a concert performing original material. The band has been known to play close to thirty different songs over the course of a weekend.
To date, the band has released two recordings - a self-titled debut album that includes live standards "Talkin' 'bout Grace," "Drive," "Forever" "One True Healer," the beautiful "Mexico Breeze."
They released a live worship album titled Alive in the fall of 2005. It was recorded in May 2005 at Pleasureville Baptist Church. The set features worship favorites "Blessed Be Your Name," "Trading My Sorrows," "Here I Am to Worship," "Open the Eyes of My Heart," and more. The band's unique spin on each song shows their creativity and passion for God. Alive 2005 also includes a handful of JMB original songs.
In January of 2006, the band headed to Cedarmore's Boone Lodge to record their latest album, Not So Easily Pleased. The collection includes the powerful "Wrap Me In Your Cross," inspired by John Piper's Don't Waste Your Life. The title track, "Not So Easily Pleased," kicks off the album, which is followed by others such as "Learning More Everyday," "Get Up to a High Mountain," and a cover of Ten Shekel Shirt's "Sweet Embrace." Also included is a soon-to-be crowd favorite - the blues inspired "What Part of Go Don't You Understand."
Overall, the band's love and passion for God is evident through their music. Each performance and recording is a new opportunity to praise our Savior and help lead others to a relationship with Him.
