Sharing a common love for old Hong Kong movies and electronic pop music, Jonathan Fong and Ken Hayashida decided to form The Karl Maka in August 2006.
Inspired by artists such as The Postal Service and Analog Girl, The Karl Maka create a distinct sound with melodies and heartfelt lyrics which mirror life's complexities. In less than a year, The Karl Maka has selectively performed at
local and international shows such as “Off-Beat!”, "Beat!", "SMILE" and
“Project Bazooka”. In June 2006, The Karl Maka picked up the top prize at ZOMG! Game Axis' video game song competition with their original composition “No Cheat Codes”.

jon maka first saw ken maka at a temasek poly gig in 1996. ken maka was performing on stage and played the bass guitar between his legs. it was then that jon maka thought to himself: "damn, this guy got mad skills!".
as fate would have it, their paths crossed again when they found that both of them were posted to the same unit during national service. under the fatherly supervison of their CO, ken and jon endured many good and bad times together (as most national service experiances, they were mostly bad times).
inspired by the likes of the postal service, the analog girl and many others (refer to influences) and a common love for 70s-80s hong kong movies by the hui brothers, ken and jon adopted the name of the Karl Maka, in tribute to the legendary actor with bald head in the 'aces goes places' series. the Karl Maka are keeping their fingers crossed that the REAL mr. Karl Maka does not sue their asses off for whatever legal reasons. in which case they may be forced to adopt the name "the Teddy Robbins".

After a long while of silence, finally the homemade Paper Aeroplane Ep
is released. Its a free Ep, so feel free to share it with your friends!
I've included a little cover art for you ipod cover flow and what not as well as some liner notes, lyrics included.
An introduction to the new Ep:
As
I walked down a street, I pondered over how time has shaped the
landscape as we know it today. What was it like without the pavements
and asphalt? It seems that even though buildings rise and fall,
kingdoms come and go, and relationships start and end, the celestial
objects seem to remain forever constant, almost a testimony of
yesterday, today, and tommorow. I wrote messages into an insignificant
piece of paper, folded it up into the shape of an aeroplane, and threw
it into the horizon. I watched as it faded away to nothingness against
the backdrop of the sun.
Infinity feels innately overwhelming, a
feeling mathematics does not seem to convey as well as gazing into the
distance that never ends. Where would my paper aeroplane fly to? Is
there an end to the journey?
This Ep is an expression of these thoughts. Hope you would enjoy it.

Just to tell you guys a little more about my upcoming EP, I know it has
been delayed several times but I hope it'll be worth the wait haha!

because they are selling fast! This EP was 7 months in the making and
we put a lot of heart, soul, and effort into it and I hope you guys
like it. It means a lot as a musician to finally put out something for
