Introducing The Last Kinection. Take a look, have a listen, and you’ll agree, without a doubt, that TLK is the voice that’s going to keep you connected, with the next era of Australian hip hop.
The Last Kinection consists of Jacob Turier aka DJ Jaytee and brother and sister super group, Joel (Weno) and Naomi Wenitong from the Kabbi Kabbi mob of South East Queensland.
Weno has been active in the industry for 15 years, in many fields, half of it in music production, producing international plays, soundtracks and all tracks to his former multi award-winning group Local Knowledge.
There’s no denying younger sister Nay has music flowing through her veins too. Pursuing her passion for music at the age of 16 by becoming half of the major label signed duo ‘Shakaya’. Whose debut single ‘Stop Calling Me’, went platinum and scored them an Aria nomination and live performance at the awards.
A TLK show would not be the same without the live turntable skills of DJ Jaytee. Whose skills at turntablism are rivalled only by his talent in music production.
The trio formed not long after the passing of four elders from Joel and Naomi’s clan, thus the name The Last ‘KIN’ection.
Representing issues, situations and emotions that we can relate to or that have affected and influenced our lives, in some way or another. Empowering listeners with respect for culture, truth and freedom of speech. Delivered with a clarity, originality and passion that’s undeniable, making their talents hard to surpass.
Lyrically mind blowing with beats to match. A TLK performance will have you nodding your head, shaking your butt, throwing your hands up in the air, screaming ‘oooh yeah’.
All members have had great success in the past with their previous groups, but the best is yet to come!
Performing & workshopping all over Australia for thousands of people. To name only a few major events, they include the Brisbane’s River Festival, The Woodford Dreaming Festival, The Sydney State Theatre for the Cannot Buy My Soul sell out concert series, performing alongside Missy Higgins, Paul Kelly, Tex Perkins, Kev Carmody and The Drones. The Sydney Opera House, the sold out Groovin the Moo festival in Maitland, also featuring The Presets, Sneaky Sound System, Spiderbait and Katalyst among others, and lastly at Newcastle’s Vision Fest, by World Vision.
TLK can be heard on ‘Cannot Buy My Soul’, a tribute album to the legendary Kev Carmody, through EMI. Where their energetic rendition of ‘The Young dancer is Dead’, appears alongside the likes of Bernard Fanning, Tex Perkins, John Butler Trio, The Herd, Troy Casser-Daley, Missy Higgins and Archie Roach to name a few.
Having just completed recording their debut album, ‘Nutches’, out midyear, keep an eye out for their film clip to Ballooraman. A beautiful hip hop track, featuring soul touching harmonies, and lyrics in their traditional Aboriginal dialect. Currently available on a single produced by Music NSW as part of The Whichway initiative, promoting talented Indigenous musical artists.
Watch out for them touring nationally with The Herd from July till September.
