The Lovely Feathers started out, as most of many do, as a band in a bedroom in an old apartment in Montreal. It was one of those bedrooms which were a double room, having been perhaps at one time a dining room or a large salon. No matter. In this bedroom resided Mark Kupfert and it was his idea to play a few informal or impromptu shows on the campus of McGill University. These ideas gained some small sort of popularity and support, and started to become things like shows at local venues and competitions around the city. And these things seemed to be going well and nicely.
And one day, as is common, they were approached. This particular approach, however, resulted in a series of both interconnected and tangential events which led them to where they are today.
Some of these events are as follows:
They signed to Equator Records.
Shortly after being signed to Equator Records, they embarked on a sixty-three day North American Tour opening for METRIC in the autumn of 2005
Shortly after this tour, in the April of 2006, they released their album, Hind Hind Legs, in stores across Canada and the US, produced by their new friend Jimmy Shaw of Metric and their producer, engineer and A&R representative of yore, Drew Malamud .
After this they proceeded on their way with North American tours accompanying Dr. Dog, Spinto Band and another time, Man Man. Then they thought it proper to headline their own tour just last fall, 2006.
Amidst these happenings there had also been shows with Islands, Tokyo Police Club, The Sounds, The Cribs, Tapes n’ Tapes, The Most Serene Republic, to name but a few. As well as appearances at SXSW, NXNE, Pop Montreal, and on MTV Live; even songs licensed on television shows “One Tree Hill” and “The Adrenaline Project”.
So it goes.
And it goes to where they are today.
The Lovely Feathers, several years finer, have signed with Sparks Music/Emi and will release their new album, “Fantasy of the Lot” in June 2009 in Canada and in Aug 2009 in the US. A respectful North American tour will follow shortly thereafter.
