Joaniemen & Correatown present: The Low Standards, a collaboration of high & low proportions.
So here's the story:
San Diego: 2003.Mission Hills, evening.
Just as Correatown (known to most then as Angela Correa, an americana singer-songwriter in Les Shelleys with Tom Brosseau) was packing up her old guitar and heading back to her new home away from home in Los Angeles, chance and circumstance collided and the stars aligned. Serendipity sent Joaniemen (known to most then as Joanie Mendenhall a member of The Exfriends, among other musical adventures with Matt Curreri, Ray Suen and Tyler Ward) to that very place, that very night. They met. They exchanged albums and numbers. They listened. They reflected. They talked a bit. The two girls have been fast friends and musical cohorts ever since.
Los Angeles: 2006. Echo Park, morning.
After years of playing on each others tunes, singing together in various incarnations, talking trash, and scheming up mayhem these two gals Joaniemen and Correatown found that they really did need to formalize their partnership. Since they both quite cherished old jazz standards, show tunes, a witty lyric and the solid snap of a finger they decided to haunt the dirty nightclubs of the eastside in search of inspiration. In a fit and flurry of audacity they endeavored to create a few new musical low standards of their own.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Gamblers & Stalwarts -
we present to you THE LOW STANDARDS. a collaboration by Joaniemen & Correatown.
