About me:
 Myspace Layouts - Myspace Editor
The Magic Lantern is a Glasgow-based independent short film night that showcases innovative films by emerging and established talent, combined with question and answer sessions with filmmakers, writers, and programmers. Each month we screen a diverse selection of shorts grouped together by theme, genre, or type of filmmaker. We support short film as a valid art form in its own right, and not just as a prelude to feature filmmaking.
Screenings since our launch in September 2006 have included our selection of the best shorts from the 2006 and 2007 Edinburgh International Film Festival programmes. A programme of short documentaries including work by Werner Herzog and Spike Lee, recent films from the festival circuit including the fantastic Russian short 'Civil Status' alongside local, GMAC funded work.
Contemporary female filmmakers, including Andrea Arnold's Oscar winner, Wasp and Sally Potter's 'London Story', and animated short films from the child-like to the avant-garde, including David Shrigley & Chris Shepherd's Who I Am and What I Want.
Our Glasgow Film Festival programme in 2007 focused on short films from early in the careers of now established British filmmakers, including Stephen Frears, Ridley Scott and Derek Jarman.
For February 2008 we have programmed a weekend's worth of short films for the Glasgow Film Festival- screenings will be held over the weekend of the 15th-17th February.
A weekend packed full of inspiring short films: combining the best new films from the UK alongside the most innovative of new international work. The weekend will also include a retrospective of rarely seen early shorts by now esteemed filmmakers co-programmed by Sarah Tripp, a programme of work followed by Q & A with local filmmaker Zam Salim, and two round table discussions covering the basics of short filmmaking with experts from the industry. The weekend will conclude with a programme of artist’s film and video curated for the festival by MAP magazine.
All of the new work screened, with the exception of the MAP programme, will be available for viewing after the festival in a new videotheque designed by artist Robert Orchardson, screening alongside Sarah Tripp’s new film, Let Me Show You Some Things, both commissioned by the CCA as part of a six week exhibition by the same name.
