The Mocks is Ely Mock and The B, from Monterrey, Mexico. Their blend of 70’s disco sound and modern electronic pop makes your legs go funny. On The Mocks’ debut EP “M is Correct” you can find seven catchy electronic pop songs that are 100% homemade. While the instrumentation comes from The B and his laptop, Ely has done the arrangements and mastering."
The Mocks formed in Monterrey, Mexico in the times when being in a band was no longer a fad, and people of the city where used to go out and listen to live bands perform in local bars. At first The Mocks only had a link on the internet and had never played live, but after almost a year of people asking them to go out and play their music, in 2007 they finally decided to do so and have been doing it successfully this whole year.
Their original music is electronic pop featuring catchy melodies, complex arpeggios and a few peak changes in the drum sequence. Their lyrics are very honest and most of the time they have a hint of sarcasm. Always keeping them melancholic and full of hope and good vibes.
The Mocks have performed in a variety of venues, including the very underground and not very famous bar "Fiesta Garage", but also in the extremely popular and international event "Forum Universal de las Culturas".
The Mocks influences range from: 70's disco music, 80's pop music and techno, 90's electropop and the future. Take the Pet Shop Boys, Cindy Lauper, Michael Jackson, mix them in a blender and add a lemon twist!
The Mocks recently released their début EP called "M is Correct" as an independent free download through their website wemocks.com.
After only a month of releasing "M is Correct" they got a review in "Rolling Stone" Mexico:
"The couple released an EP where IDM rythms, electronic soul and the love for Prince glare in an exquisite way in seven pieces of electronic pop, that don't ask for anything from other bands already recognized in the genre. From the candid "Inamorata" to the romantic balad "My Heart".
