Sounds Like
A little punk here, a little bit of 60s garage there, a lot of attitude everywhere – melded into tunes prickly with pop hooks.
The Mood Swings are a female-fronted fuzzpop band from Minneapolis. Formed in 2004 by guitarists/singers Ashley Ackerson and Sallie Watson, the band writes sharp, catchy tunes with a hard garage edge and a bit of psychedelic mayhem thrown in. The band has released an album and EP on the Susstones label, and they've been blowing minds and speakers with their live show around the Midwest. Ashley and Sallie, along with bassist Ed Ackerson and drummer Mike Reiter, are taking garage pop in their own direction, using whatever means necessary to leave a groovy ring in the ears of the listener. From the short, sharp punk rock shock of their cover of the Pandoras “Want Need Love” to the swirling mod/psych sprawl of “No Limit”, The Mood Swings have the imagination and attitude to claim their own territory in the Land of Fuzz. Look for a new three-song EP from the band in November of this year, with a full-length to follow in early '09.
