   About The Plaudits
Thanks for the interest but we split up Feb 2008

Huw Stevens played our single REGULATION on Radio One 14.11.07 !

Born in late 2006 from the lively Oxford music scene, The Plaudits combine off-kilter, sky-scraping rock anthems with melodic girl-boy synth pop harmonies.

After cutting their teeth playing live, they recorded their debut EP Time Won’t Wait in Jan 07 with uber producer John Halliday (The Candyskins, Panic at The Disco,The Young Knives) who helped refine the songs and expand the sound. After playing lots more gigs and festivals, Jeremy, Kat, Matt and The Cragg are now concentrating on writing new songs and have just completed a new E.P.(available very soon!) having recently played at the newly tarted-up Oxford Zodiac.

"More 80s-bothering guitar pop here, though of a decidedly darker nature as The Plaudits sneak into Robert Smith’s bedroom in the dead of night (silly boys – that’s when he’s wide awake!) and steal an old Cure guitar riff. This they then take home and allow to chime delicately along with some moody synth and a sullenly intense singer who opines romantically about stuff like girls leaving him. And shadows. It ain’t goth but it ain’t far off neither and we really rather like it. The mood lightens and everything changes tack thereafter as they next steal the piano intro to ‘It Must Be Love’ before jigging into Crowded House territory. All perfectly acceptable, what with the 80s being the future and all, but a slight shame they spoil things with the overwrought ‘Having Yourself On’, which desperately wants to achieve anthem status but is tied to the ground by its own bodyweight."

Nightshift E.P. review June ‘07

"Oxford’s The Plaudits have just released their ’Time Won’t Wait EP’, which starts rather inconspicuously with the title track, which is epic and has some great guitar lines, but is not the most memorable thing. The latter statement can be said of final track ’Retarded’ aswell. However in the middle of that are two rather fine songs. ’Sing To The Moon’ is bouncy keyboard led pop, incessant but cool complete with nice harmonies from Kat. ’Having Yourself On’ is a great big pop tune, but bendy, elasticated and slightly psychedelic."

May 07 www.russellsreviews.co.uk/ E.P. Review

"Another wave of people came in while the second band, the Plaudits, were setting up, and soon it was standing room only: those at the back on chairs to see the band itself. Though only a few months old, the Plaudits were also surprisingly good: loud, melodramatic, amusing and very ironic. The crowd loosened up, and appeared repeatedly on the verge of breaking into dance, but the music (seemingly deliberately) dragged in places and kept things at the level of toe-tapping and head-nodding as they swung us between wry laughter, frustration, and excitement."

Skye Hohmann, 02/02/07 Daily Info Live Review.
