To pinpoint the moment The Racketears came into being would be difficult, nay, impossible. In their present guise, The Racketears have been writing and performing together for about a year. However, the songwriting partnership of Oli Jones and Tom Edney was forged, in true cosmic style, in the year 2000. Initially labeled as an acoustic duo, the two knew that their musical evolution would lead them into a far more sinister place—the domain of electricity.
So, equipped with their newly electrified guitars they headed off in search of a band (and some amplifiers; because without these, their guitars sounded rather quiet). Their quest was long, and at times the pair nearly lost hope, but in the summer of 2002 they discovered the missing link (so to speak) and Adam Wright was encouraged to play bass.
New material was written, performed and eventually recorded. It was this recording process that highlighted the need for a permanent (and portable) synth operator. At first this need was overlooked, but as it became more apparent that a musical arrow was missing from The Racketears’ metaphorical quiver, long-time friend Regan Sergent was selected as the absent arrow.
The Racketears have had a succession of drummers over the years, but of late have decided that Aidan Williams, (who is both talented and venerable), should be The Racketears drum-man. An honourable mention should also go to Chris Gozzard; our drummer of nearly four years prior to Aidan. He is now an astronaut.
More writing and performing ensued, and we now find ourselves in Colwyn Bay, six years on; in the present day…
