Vancouver's The Random Humans are an exception to that rule. .. When two friends from Calgary ran into each other in a Vancouver record shop last year, the site became the root of their fresh new hip-hop collaboration and The Random Humans were born. .. Deciding to stick to the unconventional, the hip-hop duo, comprised of Deception and Bear, chose to collaborate with Juno award-winning engineer, Rob Shallcross, known for his handiwork in, of all things, metal. It may not seem like a logical choice at first, but the brash juxtaposition of genres has been a blessing. .. "There's no boundaries for us because we've crossed them all," says Deception. .. The Random Humans also enlisted the help of some unique collaborators for their debut release. Oakland's Sunspot Jonz from the legendary underground hip-hop group The Living Legends lent his trademark rhymes for their first single "Where Did You Come From" and Vancouver's D-Rec lent a hand in the scratch department, and when the need arose for a guitarist and bassist, the duo looked to Jason Morley and Jim Bennett, who've been performing together for over the last decade. Morley has played the guitar for the past twenty-two years, getting involved with everything from classical to extreme music, collaborating with musical legends such as Gene Hoglan, Virgil Donati (Steve Vai). Bennett, who's played bass for most of his life, also came from a distinct background; one mostly filled with jazz, and has lead a prosperous career that has seen him perform a special guest duet with bass legend Victor Wooten. .. This blunt diversity bleeds into The Random Humans' sound and combined with Deception's instinctual gift for spitting rhymes, Beatsmith Bear's surprising beats, and their strive to display a real expression of a generation's musical influences, the group's debut is set to become a cult classic. .. Following the release of a three-track EP, The Random Humans' first full-length album, "Over Your Head," is set to drop this October. It's goal? To take listeners on a journey into Vancouver's teaming underground music scene and prove that hip-hop lives in Canada and beyond.
