Hello, I'm Russell Jackson, born in Memphis TN, 1954. I started playing bass in 1974, while stationed at Fort Riley, KS. I moved to Chicago in 1976 and joined the Otis Clay Band, while living in Chicago I had a chance to learn and play with the likes of Buddy Guy, Artic 'Blues Box' White, Little Howling Wolfe, Abbe Locke, Bobby Rush, Willie Clayton, and Johnny Dollar. In 1978 at the age of 23 I played on Otis Clay's very first live Japanese album "Live at Touronamon Hall". After leaving Otis I went on tour with the B.B. King Orchestra. It was during the six and a half year stint that I played in some prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Grand Ole Oprey, Smithsonian Institute. I also played the Moscow Theatre in the USSR in 1979. During the years in the BB King Orchestra, I had a chance to play with some of the music industries' greats. Everybody sat in, toured, and played with him. After BB King's band, I went to school to study music. LA was the place to go, so I went to Dick Grove School of Music and received an Associate Degree in Music. While in school I studied acoustic and electric bass with Joel DiBartolo (Johnny Carsons' Tonight Show bassist) and learned to read music and study bass theory. At the same time I was going to school in LA, the music scene became the place to be, there I played with greats such as Jimmy Witherspoon, Margie Evans, Sam Taylor, Barbara Mason, Roy Gaines (The Color Purple). In 1987 I moved to Sacramento CA, and co-founded 'Silent Partners', a world renowned rhythm section with drummer Tony Coleman. Through Silent Partners I toured and recorded for Alligator and Antone Records. I played with some highly acclaimed blues artists such as Luther Tucker, Matt Murphy, Kenny Neal, Lucky Peterson, Katie Webster, and Charlie Musselwhite. I also did Farm Aids III & IV with Willie Nelson. In 1990, after Silent Partners I moved to Vancouver BC, where I now reside. I joined the 'Powder Blues Band' after my arrival for a year. During that same year I recorded on Long John Baldry's CD "It Ain't Easy". I also took a job at Tom Lee's Music running the Music School and creating 'Club Jam'. The birth of the Russell Jackson Band came in 1992. After forming this quartet we started playing on the Canadian Blues scene. I have released three CDs off my own material. From 1994-97 I was a big part of the Kansas City Blues Society, playing most of the big shows at the Grand Emporium, opening for artists such as Son Seals, Five Blind Boys of Alabama, and the Holmes Brothers. It was also during this time I did lots of school for Blues in both US and Canada. In 2003 I became part of Chicago Blues Festival, what I've been a part of ever since. I eventually became the musical director for all the tours. While living in Vancouver I joined forces with Kenny 'Blues Boss' Wayne, and recorded an award winning CD.
