April 23, 2009 - NZ on Air Video Grant

Thanks NZ on Air! The real good news here is that if you're paying tax, a very small percentage of that will now go towards making us wear makeup.

We feel extremely lucky to have been awarded one of only 28 music video grants from the latest funding round. We've had a lot of support from NZ on Air over the years and we can honestly say that we wouldn't be were we are without their help.

Of course, there are hundreds more people who also deserve our thanks and appreciation, so let's just say one big THANK YOU to everyone who has helped so far. Now we're doing our part by making the best album we possibly can.

Just over a week to go before recording starts, and of course we have our pre-album show on Sunday May 3 to give you all a taste of what we've been working on. We hope everybody is ready to hear some new These Four Walls music, at an unusually high volume.

March 27, 2009 - Special Show Announcement

These Four Walls will be playing a one-off pre-album show on Sunday May 3, before (literally, the day before) we head into the studio to begin tracking.

This is your first and only chance to hear a bunch of great now songs before they are released later in the year, and of course, the old favourites.

We'd really appreciate any help we can get promoting this show - please e-mail your friends and forward the event around a bit. This would really help us out, as we will be extremely busy preparing for the album over the next couple of months.

Also, we have had a lot of interest from other bands recently, and we realise there are probably a few that would really like the opportunity to open one of our shows. If you think your band would be a good support act for These Four Walls, please send us a message or email gray@thesefourwallsband.com with your details and a link to a website or myspace page. We will select opening acts over the next few weeks.

March 12, 2009 - Album Progress

The preparations have been made, the studios have been booked. These Four Walls will begin recording their debut album in May with the aim of releasing it in August. They’ve got two of NZ’s top producers/engineers onboard - Chris Van De Geer (Stellar*, Revolver, Solstate) and Andrew Buckton (Steriogram, The D4, Midnight Youth) - and some really tight new material up their sleeves.

Keep watching this site for progress reports, and hopefully some new demos for your earholes in the near future. You can still suggest songs you’d like to hear on the album for a couple more weeks, it’s been good feedback so far. __________________________________________________________

January 01, 2009 - Happy New Year

Thanks again to EVERYONE that supported us in 2008 and made it such a big year for us. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Now we are looking forward to stepping things up in 2009 - We've been working towards doing an album for a while, and now we've officially started pre-production, so if you don't hear much from us for a couple of months, that's why.

Keep checking back here and leave your messages of support, we'll do our best to keep you updated on our progress. In the meantime, we'd like you to come up with the worst/stupidest album title you can think of. I'll give you a clue - we like bad puns.

December 01, 2008 - Back in Auckland, Last Show Of The Year

Thanks to everyone who came to all of our shows over the last month or so, we've had an awesome time touring up and down the country. Now we're back in Auckland, an gearing up to play our last show of the year.

These Four Walls are playing the first two shows of the FLY HOME tour this weekend, along with Audio Empire.
Catch them in Wellington on Saturday the 25th, playing at Bodega for just $5, then on Sunday at Bar Mode - a special FREE show with cheap beers for your Labour Weekend. Both shows are R18.

September 30, 2008 - New Shows Announced

What a weekend we've had! Two shows on one night, one of which was sadly cut short due to an electrical malfunction at the venue. We apologise to everyone that came along to the Snowplanet show, unfortunately this problem was completely out of our hands. The good news is that we have two cracking shows coming up very shortly, and these are about as simple as you can get! Firday the 10th of October at the Masonic is a gauranteed good time, and probably the last one we'll ahve at that particular venue before it's closed down for good.
And Friday October 17 is a special FREE, ALL AGES show at the North Harbour Netball Complex, once again with our good friends Solomon as well as 2nd mile.

These Four Walls came together over four years ago when guitarist Gray Vickers placed an advertisement online with the title ‘SINGER WANTED.’

When Waihi-based singer Steve Gibb responded to the ad and came to Auckland for an audition, everything fell into place. The musical connection between Gray and Steve would be the driving force behind the band’s upcoming success.

And success wouldn’t be far away. Wasting no time, the band threw themselves into rehearsals and months later they were rewarded, winning the Battle Of The Bands North Shore Final - a feat considering this was only their third live performance.

Live performance would form the central focus of These Four Walls rise in the NZ music scene. Over the next 3 years the band played over 200 live shows, establishing themselves as one of Auckland’s hardest working and most popular live acts. The level of energy and quality of performance at each show set the benchmark for the following one, transforming the group into a well-oiled touring machine.

Over the coming years the band would continue to impress live in Auckland and throughout the North Island. Meanwhile, Gray and Steve developed their songwriting skills, diversifying their sound, as well as cementing the band’s current line-up, which features Chris Treeby on bass guitar and Gray’s brother Brad Vickers on the Drums.

In 2006 their more refined rock sound was noticed by NZ on Air, who awarded them the first of two New Recording Artist grants for the song Walk Away. When the song was released in February 2007 it received regular rotation on The RockFM, KiwiFM, C4 and Juice TV - something almost unheard of for an unsigned band. In 2008 Walk Away was ranked No. 965 on The RockFM’s Rock 1000 countdown - The only unsigned band to make the list.

Following up Walk Away, These Four Walls released their second NZ on Air funded single Under The Shadows. This song marked the band’s debut on The EdgeFM and also won the EA Amplify competition 2007 (Electronic Arts.)

Presently, the band are preparing to release their third single and music video, Fly Home, to radio and television, while working on pre-production for their upcoming debut album.
