7pm - 1am Friday, 3pm - 1am Saturday, 3pm - 12pm Sunday // £5 per day // NO advance tickets

After a veriable famine in the North East music 'scene' where the musically adventurous and artistically driven have been forsaken in favour of the safe, the tame and the bland, Distraction present three days of aural innovation, future players, and diverse sonic excursions that right those very wrongs.

The Distraction Weekender returns. Accept no imitations.

Currently Sweden's hottest export, THOSE DANCING DAYS combine "Sweet as apple-pie pop" with a devilishly sassy Northern Soul and it's this unique combination that has the got the whole of the UK falling over itself and for good reason too!

The subtle dynamics in their songwriting of JOHN and JEHN and the balance between chaos and beauty and the mastery of heartbreaking melodies Expect beautifully skewed hymns in the key of Serge Gainsbourg.

Wakefield's THE RESEARCH are makers of fun, but also write songs that are like punches in the stomach that knock the wind out of you but afterwards you agree that you feel much better for it.

I hate to do this to you, but every little helps. or is it asda price? in fact, i feel downright evil, writing comments trying to make you come to a gig. well i'm still doing it. we're playing the the newcastle academy tonight. pimpin! we played here last year and it was possibly the best gig we've ever done. see you tonight! X p.s. the program I'm mailing you on is being funny, so if you're in newcastle-under-lyme or new york or indeed anywhere except newcastle, sorry! we'll be with you shortly.

Stars of the Lid are easily one of the most important and influential bands or our times. Read a review of any ambient or experimental band these days and you will see their name being dropped, and it’s not hard to hear why. Stars of the Lid are masters of weaving sonic textures gorgeously into beautiful, absorbing, minimalist epic drones, wavering between subtly mournful and gloriously triumphant, offering the perfect soundtrack to lucid daydreaming.

Hear Stars Of The Lid play in Newcastle in a perfect church setting for this very special show.

Panther

Charlie is Panther, and Panther is some mutant form of Charlie. Having recently supported The Gossip, Panther’s music is hard match of damaged soul, falsetto disco and broken synth fueled freakouts which is as addictive as it is challenging. This solo affair of Charlie Salas-Humara isn’t easily ignored for his unpredictable and energetic performances tainted with throbbing bass, minimalistic hooks and jittery dance routines. Panther’s influences run deep and take as much from Pop and R&B as Free Jazz and Punk.

http://www. myspace. com/panthertouch

7Hertz

Fluid and engaging, 7 Hertz fluctuate and mutate live before your very ears. incorporating all or none of the following instruments - basson, violin, voice, double bass, french horn, glockenspiel, clarinet, mandolin, trumpet - they improvise glorious pieces with total, beautiful spontaneity. With imaginations that rival those of Tom Waits and Stravinsky this is modern “classical” music that writhes and soothes - is what they say about themselves and I'd have to agree.

http://www. myspace. com/the7hertzband

Tigers!

Tigers! - either the worlds most criminally underated band or a total pile of dog-shite depending on who you talk too. TIGERS! we're kicking ass when PANTHER we're completing the american version of the KEY STAGE ONE exam! TIGERS! have played with almost every good band on earth including COUGHS, KIT, THE LOCUST, EATS TAPES, FELIX KUBIN, WOLVES...ETC! TIGERS! are not funky! Thats just bullshit talk to encourage people to get into PRINCE! TI

Kling Klang

I totally buzz off Kling Klang. Fat electro krautrock riffs and landscapes get channeled through amiable scousers.

listen to Heavydale

Quack Quack

Yorskhire's top semi-pro rock band create pulsing rhythmic grooves lovingly fermented from the finest drums, synths and bass they could get their hands on. A very special vintage.

listen to Conversations

Minghe Morte

Musicianship of the highest calibre which will blow your head clean off. With drums, fucked up sax and bass coming together for infectiously violating rock grooves, tender atmospheres and aggresive spasmodic climaxing.

listen to i Punch U Coz i Like U

Curious Voice Duo

Two lovely girls from LIMA* who know their voices. Performing within semi-structures with an innocent improvisational flair, entwining their heavenly voices in gorgeously melodic dialogue. With no added vocal effects.
