Since 2000 The Sheiling has been a loose collective of Aberystwyth-based musicians. Largely prompted & assembled by vocalist Dylan Jones the band has primarily been a recording unit. 'A Touch Of Rain' (2000) is folk based. The album being composed half of traditional songs & half of original material and covers. The covers include two Nick Drake songs, 'Clothes Of Sand' & 'Joey'.
With a change of principal guitarist (songwriter Alan Coopey replacing Ian Gulley) 'Shape I'm In' (2001) has a more rootsy flavour. This time the balance of the album is in favour of original material- but there are still some interesting covers including songs by Tim Buckley & Gram Parsons. 'Remnants' (2003) is an album of demos & acoustic takes. Assembled really as an interim during something of a lull. All of the above appear on the band's own label 'Umbrella Head'.
Currently there are the stirrings of an intention to press a compilation CD which will include new original material and give a better indication of 'The Sheiling's' current musical postition.
Throughout the sound is at heart acoustic-based, with an emphasis on lyrical singing & songwriting.

This month we have Regina Spektor with the theme to the film Prince Caspian (but don’t let that put you off, it is really rather wonderful), Mermaid Skeletons with a great song that’s worth it for the chorus alone, the Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir, who are as good as their name if not more so and finally the legendary Chip Taylor with the thought-provoking Former American Soldier. Great listening, and if you like the tracks, buy the albums!
Thank you so much my friends - welcome to the camp !!!!
A common love of music - what more could we ask for - well, (and I'm assuming here that we haven't got our heads stuck in the sand or up our own backsides) apart from world peace, a solution to global warming and a bit more personal wealth that is !!!
