The usual suspects including the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pete Townsend, James Taylor and REM. Also Steve Earle, John Hiatt, Matthew Sweet, Radiohead (Bends!), Janes Addiction, Nirvana, Sugar, and many more.
The Shimshaws are Todd McCombs (Vocals, Keyboards, Guitars, Nose Flute) and Scott McCombs (Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Upright Backfat). Todd and Scott have played together in a number of bands going back to 1990, including the seminal Washington DC band The Quesadas.
Beginning in 1996, the McCombs brothers starting writing and recording new material under the name Those Meddling Kids and released one disc entitled Good Times Machine. In 2003, The Shimshaws were born. Working with drummer Kevin Lehman and bassist Paul Rogalski, the Shimshaws released "Subcutaneous". The disc was written and produced by the McCombs brothers and is loaded with 12 well-crafted, melodic pop songs.
Stylistically, The Shimshaws' music ranges from clever pop rock to alternative country to tender ballads, all with a nod and a wink to artists as diverse as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Steve Earle, John Hiatt and REM. Give Subcutaneous a listen...The Shimshaws will get under your skin!
