   About The Slow Signal Fade
The Slow Signal Fade - "TBA"

Here are some things....other people....have said....about us.....

"Their (TheSSF) music is an amalgam of the spacier side of early-90s English shoegaze (Ride, Swervedriver) and the aggressive side of late-60s California psychedelia (Spirit, Jefferson Airplane), set roaring amid the jacarandas and desperation of contemporary Hollywood." - L.A. City Beat

"Sharp lines, stark shadows, and the cold distance of dead dreams comprise the sound of Los Angeles' The Slow Signal Fade. With a flair for the dramatic, the quartet adorns steely clangs of post-punk with flourishes of shoegazer straight out of Lush or Curve. While the band sculpts swells and shudders, singer Marguerite Olivelle is the eye of the storm, and may prove to be the most engaging indie diva since Denali's Maura Davis. Slow Signal's new "Steady" was recorded by Steve Albini, who cannily captured the band's morose, gorgeous atmosphere" - The Onion

"Here's a shoegazing LA foursome that's equal parts murk and moxie. After touring steadily in support of its promising 2005 EP, "Through the Opaque Air," yet still relatively unknown, the Slow Signal Fade somehow managed to charm uber-producer Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, P.J. Harvey) into helming the band's full-length indie debut. "Steady," a disc of brooding, widescreen focus, marked with just enough of Albini's trademark abrasion and bite, is the collaborative result. Although the album consists of only nine tracks, extended Cure-sculpted forays into swirling, post-punk soundscapes such as "Time Machine" and "That's a Long Way Down" sound spacious and epic, thanks to the sprawl of guitars and a rhythmic tidal wave that rolls dramatically, continually, outward. Sri Lankan-born singer Marguerite Olivelle is the pretty face fronting this equally pretty - if occasionally foreboding - universe. Olivelle possesses a soaring, searing voice that suggests an odd cross between a pre-meltdown Sinead O'Connor and a sugar-free Natalie Merchant. But it's the music - darkly lit, alternately delicate, and ferocious - that's the true star of the show." - The Boston Globe

"No, these guys (and gal) don't sound like a bunch of British pansies afraid to make eye contact with the audience. Nor do they sound a hell of a lot like The Cure, one of their primary influences. A more apt comparison would be the more obscure band Madder Rose -- similarly, The Slow Signal Fade makes maximum use of watery, effects-heavy guitars but keeps them in check, maintaining a skeletal atmosphere that lets the songs, rather than just sound, convey urgency. It's an impressive balance." - Phoenix New Times

"Never mind the shoe-gazers; this is deeper: dream pop that brings to mind a spider's web of blown glass. Call it soul-gazer." - Tucson Weekly

"Although there’s atmospherics aplenty, this L.A. combo doesn’t simply rely on an arsenal of guitar pedals; the songs are driving, dynamic and memorable, and singer Marguerite Olivelle’s voice is both tender and tough. The result is utterly mesmerizing." - Portland Tribune

"The Slow Signal Fade has an aural journey to take you on, and the trip will show you more beauty than the destination." - Girlpunk.net

"The Slow Signal Fade is a fine fusion of different strands to create something that at once is classically shoegaze and isn't at the same time... Instead of shrouding everything in a post-Slowdive haze, the band's rolling, punching delivery is crisper and cleaner while still lovely and mysterious at the same time." (4 Stars) - All Music Guide

"This LA foursome blends gothic rhythms with ambient guitar-based pop. Most of the modern bands that ply this sort of shoegaze are fronted by men, but TheSSF's Marguerite Olivelle has a haunting voice that instantly demands your attention... Like an updated version of Siouxsie and the Banshees or Galaxie 500, The Slow Signal Fade's songs are dark, sexy and addictive." - Splendid

"The Slow Signal Fade's exotic and dark vocals are what make them stand out from the pack. The Los Angeles-based group formed in 2002 and in a short amount of time have managed to craft a polished sound and, from what I've heard, a stellar stage performance." - The Alibi

"Each of the six songs on this unyielding EP is obstinate, unrelenting and severe. Deftly dubbed a mix of 80s postpunk/90s shoegazing, The Slow Signal Fade create a perfect serenade to the lonely and lovelorn." - Mesh Magazine

"Sometimes it helps to envision an album or band as a person - The Slow Signal Fade would be a carnie at Spiderland. Made increasingly complex by the feminine vocals of Ms. Marguerite Olivelle, there is a compelling sweetness behind the dark, bass-heavy mystery. Perhaps the band is most like the Bearded Lady - womanly with a surprisingly edgy twist. Either way, the gravely post-rock notions of Slint are never far from their graces, and the raw, beaten submissiveness of their vocals keeps them shackled." - Lost At Sea

"Among all of the revivalist post-punk bands of the early 21st century, it’s particularly rewarding to discover new groups still at the stage before the big break, playing and singing with tremendous passion and ambition. LA’s The Slow Signal Fade is one such entity. " - Delusions Of Adequacy

The Slow Signal Fade has toured all over the United States....from Coast to Coast and everywhere in between....and has graced the stage with other indie rock favorites such as....Band Of Horses....West Indian Girl....Electrelane ....Silversun Pickups....The Helio Sequence....The Start....Be Your Own Pet.... I just found out about you guys and im completely hooked. My friend had "Through the Opaque Air " in a dusty drawer in her kitchen. Im not so sure what drove me to open the drawer, but i did, and i saw the cover. I thought it was an awesome cover. I asked my friend who you were, she had no idea. So she gave me the cd,and the moment i heard the first song, i was hooked. Now im waiting on Amazon for two more cd's from you guys =]
That's too bad this didnt happen a year earlier...I would not have missed last April, but Im glad you created what you did =] thank you : )
