WHO? Paul Herron, Lee Blades, Stewart English and Roger Millichamp
WHAT? The Sons blend timeless guitar pop with a complex style of song-writing, to create a dark slice of summer with a seedy underbelly.
WHERE? Based in Derby and Nottingham, The Sons have gigged extensively around the country, providing many a memorable set of originals over the past few months at the likes of Water Rats, The Cavern Club, The Vic (supporting Nine Black Alps and Alfie for example), The Social, headlining slots at the Sunday Club at the Flowerpot, and Hertfordshire university to name but a few. They’ve also appeared on an NME tour, as house band at the You’re So Old Street club nights including playing alongside 10,000 Things and Do Me Bad Things and have also supported the likes of Ian Brown.
WHEN? The Sons self-funded and ’released’ their first EP, ep:1, in June 2006 and it was the greatest self funded ep1 of all time. Since then, they have been busy writing and demoing new material, (only about 30 songs, so deent back catalogue like...)culminating in last year’s fantastic "Visiting Hours" album.
HOW? Contact the band at info@the-sons.com or give Paul a direct shout at paulherrron@hotmail.com (that’s 3 "r"s leyk).
WHY? "Catchy and distinctive... The Sons have managed a stonker of a single." - Alison B, "Black Velvet"
"...a decent slice of guitar pop." - David Flint, "Noise Culture"
"It really has got to be some kind of special skill to write such a fantastic verse" - James Seddon, "Muso’s Guide"
"They have the art of a good chorus down to a tee... We could be seeing these guys around a little more." - Chris Brown, "Dripfed"
"...all sweetness and light with a very dark and imposing underside...entertaining lyrics and new additions include dirtier, darker songs, far more finely tuned to create a menacing yet ’pop’ experience...made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. It was one of those perfect moments that sums up how you feel about a band" - www.youresooldstreet.co.uk
