Bio
The Spirites Consort is primarily known as a Renaissance band, though we have often branched out into different hybrids of jazz, folk and mainstream classical since the 1990s, especially in concert. The impetus for the band was innovation and improvisation on well-known folk and classical covers and to merge genres (cross-over). We are all seasoned players with many, many years of professional experience and the band has gone through some changes since its inception and is ever defining itself. Featured instruments include guitars, recorders, whistles, hammered dulcimer, double bass, violin, baritone violin and percussion... Musical educational background of our players includes Berklee, New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, Eastman School of Music, College of Saint Rose and DePaul Unviversity... “Spirites” is an olde English way of spelling “Spirits”. .. Sounds Like
It is perhaps difficult to pigeon-hole us, but we probably most resemble artists like The New World Renaissance Band, Cantiga, Loreena McKennit, Baltimore Consort, Blackmores Night, Ian Anderson, Pentangle, The Incredible String Band, vaguely like some of the Windham Hill artists… Hmmm, you let us know what you think…
