THROUGH THE SHADOWS “…the Spiritual Bat’s journey through the undistinguished shapes of nightmare, surviving the adrenaline rush of sacrifice… having broken its wings off to hopelessly jump blindfolded into the vortex of wordless soundscapes, a paradoxical act of faith, seduced by melody… the soundtrack of an odyssey, irresistible temptation of drowning in silver waters… the Bat resurfaces through the whirlwind of an overwhelming emotion, the craving of a creature who is unable to dance… scarred by tremendous battles against the invisible Fear constantly looming over to undermine the flight, the stagnant hovering in the dark mist… the Bat alights on the ruins of collapsed symbols and broken oaths, only to breathe in the ashes, to silently mourn the loss… it awakes to an ancient voice crying for eternal youth, but it has to march on, still on the run, still in the maze of the nightmare, until it summons the ritual, the painful solution, the light…”



THE SPIRITUAL BAT BIO
"The Spiritual Bat" is a duo, consisting of Dario Passamonti (Music) and Rosetta Garrì (Lyrics). Initially meant to release all instrumental music, The Spiritual Bat’s first album Through The Shadows underwent an unforeseen change between the circulation of the all instrumental demo and the realization of the final work. When a recording session for acoustic drums was set up, Rosetta took inspiration and on a spur of the moment wrote the lyrics for some of the songs and debuted on her vocal instrument.

The Through The Shadows demo was performed, recorded and mixed entirely by Dario (on Guitar, Bass, Synths and Drums) and Rosetta (Drums and sequencing), with some extraordinary contributions by Maestro Bruno Paolo Lombardi (National RAI Orchestra, Italy), on the Flute, on "Wandering On Cobble Hills", "Prague", "Twins" and "Primordial Call". Later on a re-elaboration took place with the introduction of acoustic drums played by Alessio Santoni (all tracks except “Sogno Tribale”), and the addition of Rosetta’s vocals, recorded, mixed and mastered by Claudio Mura. The composition “Twins” was originally inspired by breathing the atmosphere and ashes of New York on September 11th, 2001. New York is The Spiritual Bat's second home, and home of family (Rosetta's) and dear friends.

The Spiritual Bat is a new project, but it is an evolution from "The Spiritual Bats" project which was conceived in 1992 by Dario Passamonti (Alchemisti Painters) and Matteo Bracaglia. At that time, being a painter, Dario composed the music out of the need of transmuting Image into Sound. Matteo was the singer and author of the lyrics. The vinyl EP Spiritual Bats was recorded in 1993. The project was destined to have a new line up for each recording, but always featured artwork by the Alchemisti Painters (Biennial of Venice, 1986 Art and Alchemy section), as well as their installations and projections during live performances. The performances were multi-medial excursions, or live rituals, rare apparitions, balancing between Image and Sound.

In November 1994, after the shows at the Crypta (Rome) and the Condor (Modena) the Spiritual Bats had the pleasure and the honour of opening for Rozz Williams (Christian Death) and his Daucus Karota, at the Black Out (Rome). Dario’s Passage into the Realm of Shadows did not weaken the project: Confession was recorded live by Claudio Mura at the Pan Pot Studio in Rome, in May 1995, immediately after the show at the Velvet. Shamanic drummer Rosetta, on her spiritual journey around the world(s), was present at that event . She was fascinated by the fusion of Alchemy and Art. As the Alchemic Quest was her quest as well, Dario invited her to join the group. She has been active in the project ever since.

Alchemisti Music was born and Sacrament was released in 1999, after the live show at the CB’s Gallery (Alchemy), New York, August 1998, with the projection of the Funeral Cries Video. In addition to the Alchemisti Art, Sacrament proudly features the Graphics Art by Eric Hammer, (Musician and Painter of the band Mors Syphilitica).

In 1999 The Unquiet Grave Volume 1 was released by CLEOPATRA, a much applauded compilation by ATHAN MAROULIS, including The Spiritual Bats' track Crucifixion, which brought further exposure to bands like The Last Dance, Bella Morte, Android Lust, Written In Ashes, Machine In The Garden, Trance To The Sun.

In 2004, due to the development of individual artistic choices, the founders of the project decided to part. Dario continues to bring his visions to life through sound with Rosetta. Thanks to the encouragement of fans and a promise to Claudio, they have just recently been inspired to share that intimate dimension. The initiation took place on September 27, 2008 at the Organ Music Club, Frosinone. The Bat is ready to come out live.
