Influences
The Post Ill Modern Sounds of Black Garage is an expression of our devotion to everything that is black and beautiful; Tupac, Otis Redding, Johnny Cash, Keith Richards. You see, OUR HIP HOP & SOUL IS THE NEXT ROCK N' ROLL. To put it to you straight, we sound like outkast and Jimi Hendrix just chillen at a BBQ, and the Rolling Stones crashed party, but it's all good see, because they brought Reefer and Band Aids man - you dig? I thought so.
Sounds Like
We are The Blaxstonz. We try to sound like The Rolling Stones just to prove our point. One of these Staxxtoberfests we are going to play The Chronic 2001, note for note - I swear to god. But most of all, we pay homage to the most underrated and under appreciated label in the history of popular music; the greatest, the most funktuhfied, integrated, so damn dirty soulful I'm just glad they made it, gang of Memphis-American Angels ever to reach into the basket of Americana and come out with a armful of ghetto gold - god bless you - Stax/Volt RIP. Please moment of silence (15 seconds). Amen.
"Left to their own devices with Scott Colburn (Arcade Fire, Animal Collective) at his voodoo lair, an old Finnish church turned recording studio, The Staxx Brothers return with a vengence on We are The Blaxstonz. It’s an album that borders on black comedy with heavier social undercurrents; by now as much Chappelle & Carlin as Big Boi and Jagger. It’s a good time record that helps you dance through the tough ones. It’s HARD ASS SOUL. It’s ice cold. This is the way they used to make records. Step real close and you can detect that heavy scent of Howlin’ Wolf runnin’ wild through a Hip Hop landscape...I can still hear him laughin’.”
