Never Return To Me
The Straight 8s have become one of the most respected purveyors of modern Rockabilly (with elements of Swing, Surf, and other precious debris), earning not only the acknowledgement of respected scenesters and the enthusiastic approval of neophytes, but also the begrudging appreciation of those grimacing loathers of all things 50's. "What's their secret?" you ask. It's their pure love of this music that gives it honesty, allowing retro elements to reconfigure into bright new constellations. It's also the capturing of that wild glint in the eyes of the first rock'n'rollers and making you swear it was their own. It's their ability to do what ten thousand of other bands do, but do it better. This disc doesn't sound tired or uninspired, but instead growls, bumps, and bites as this Rockabilly beast keeps evolving. - Rock-n-Roll Purgatory
Rockabilly, Neo-Rockabilly, Hillbilly, Jump Blues, Swing, Surf, blah, blah, blah ... Hell, I guess labels are a necessary evil on some level, but still ... All we really know is that we like our rock-n-roll from an era when it was still pink and raw. A couple of guys (or gals) banging out basic rhythms, playing their underpowered amps louder than they were designed to go, smackin' their instruments hard to get more, and straining their voices to be heard in a world that was desperately trying to hold it all back.
New Album Out Now !!!
But what's that you ask? Is it any good ???

This is yet another new addition to my collection that will be played frequently for a long time. Never Return to Me starts you off with a beautiful instrumental to give you a little taste of what’s to come. Everything that follows is simply brain candy, finishing up with a few tunes that are instant classics. This album definitely is modern rockabilly at its finest. The 8’s make it obvious that their influences span a vast variety of music. Not sticking to one specific style is what I think makes this one great. The diversity from one song to another is truly impressive. I can’t wait to hear what is next out of these guys; it’s almost guaranteed to rock your socks off. Get your hands on it…

On July 15th, The Hank in Chains Show will feature some of the greatest live performances of Bruce Springsteen from the past 30 years. Since taking the world by storm with his hall of fame album Born to Run in the mid 70s, Springsteen and his E-Street Band have become even more well-known for their always incredible live performances. The Boss started building his live music legacy in the 70s, and despite an E-Street hiatus during the late 80s/early 90s, he hasn't lost a step!
Artists/bands on this week's show include: BR549, George Harrison, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Black Keys, Willie Phoenix, Chuck Mead, The Petty Bones, Gary Bennett, Mudcrutch, Dana Fuchs, The Straight 8's, The Devil Makes Three, and Chris Scruggs.
