A LITTLE TEASE
This is not your grandfather’s burlesque show. Like plenty of people participating in the nationwide resurgence of the burlesque form, the women of Buffalo troupe the Stripteasers are dressing up (or down) like Gypsy Rose Lee and the slinky stars of the form’s heyday to transport audiences back to the prohibitionist era’s favorite type of near-illicit stage entertainment. But their performances, politically motivated and conceived as a critique of gender roles, are aimed as much at the brain as the libido.
Hence the Stripteasers’ new show, “Dreaming Out of Digital,” which comes to the ALT Theatre (255 Great Arrow Ave.) tonight through Dec. 14. Curiously enough, the Stripteasers’ performance deals with the forthcoming transition from analog to digital TV through good old-fashioned titillation and audience engagement. And if that’s not enough to get you out to the ALT (or to the troupe’s weekly performances at Roxy’s every Thursday), consider the ticket prices of $10 to $15 presale or $15 to $20 at the door.

About me:
Buffalo based burlesque troupe The Stripteasers have been shocking audiences since April 2004. Madina Madis, Lady A, Ginger Gently, Mistress J, and Ava LaFey unite dance, political satire and queer sketch comedy to create a shocking, sex positive revue. Keeping with the age old tradition of burlesque, The Stripteasers use their wit and sass to challenge social stigmas, gender hierarchy, and political onstructs. Hardly virgins to the burlesque scene, The Stripteasers continue to seduce audiences internationally, most recently appearing at LadyFest Ohio, Buffalo's Music is Art Festival, Fetish Conn's National Fetish Convention in Tampa, and Skin Two's Rubber Ball in Atlanta. Catch them every Thursday at Roxy's as they rock and rebel against the status quo, presenting fluid forms of sexuality and showcasing the absurdity of social roles.

Dreaming Out of Digital
The Stripteasers: What better argument for trading in the TV for the seductions and visceral thrills of live performance? Buffalo’s best-known and most bizarre burlesque troupe’s latest show is called “Dreaming Out of Digital,” and it tells the story of what happens to—ahem—”Randy Dickiner” when the Stripteasers take over his New Year’s Eve. Written and directed by Megan Piret and Julie Rautenstrauch, this collaboartion between the Stripteasers and the Alt P erformance Group features video work by Danielle Boris; choreography by Piret and Rautenstrauch; violinist Fran Egan; comedians Winston Duke and Shanin Allen; and spoken-word artist Kristianne Meal. The show began last weekend with shows on Friday and Saturday, and continues this weekend (Dec. 12-14) with evening performances all three nights.
