About me: Imagine every cell phone, radio, and television in your city suddenly broadcasting the same mysterious signal over and over. Now imagine these "terminus" transmissions evoking violent, uncontrollable, psychotic chaos from everyone who comes in contact with them.
The Signal invades the minds of everyday citizens living their workaday lives and having their sordid affairs. Suddenly struck by the power of the insidious transmissions, they are compelled to kill or be killed. Complicating matters is a zombielike resistance some characters have to the idea of remaining dead. The story violently explodes, blending bloody gore with psychological satire, for a truly original horror experience. The Atlanta filmmaking team of David Bruckner, Dan Bush, and Jacob Gentry tell the eerie tale in three parts (cleverly called "transmissions"), shifting perspectives to draw out a larger story that explores dark secrets and fears as well as jealousy and betrayal.
Not for the faint of heart, The Signal will nonetheless satisfy those looking for a smart exploration of the power of media to mutate our minds. It is truly inspired independent filmmaking that will stalk viewers from every dark corner while examining the surprising human madness lying deep within.
So, I saw The Signal at the Rome film festival (Last September I think?). I loved it and everyone else did too. (Even though everyone I encountered was slightly drunk) But then today I went to screenplay and saw it I flipped and rented it and am forcing a bunch of people to come over and watch it. I almost broke it trying to get it out of the case, that I didn't want to touch because it was sticky. Someone probably came on it because it was such a great film. Yeah, I went THERE. Almost everything I just said was irrelevant but who's to say.
Quite possibly one of the COOLEST movies ever done... Looks, Feels, Sounds like a big budget movie!!! Brilliantly written, directed, and performed!!! I especially like the 3 different "transmissions" from each director... keeps the film engaging and entertaining from start to finish!!!!
This is my film! well my idea! I had made a film about the EXACT SAME THING!Before this came out. only thing is i didnt have it copyrighted. so theres nothing i can do but bitch and moan haha. But still HOLLYWOOD stole my idea! i havent seen it yet but im excited to.
Best film ever! I might have said that on here after seeing it at the theater but I just saw the dvd and had to say it again. When The Signals second Transmission is broadcast It would be interesting to blur the boundaries of 'reality more' delving into the nature of reality itself and its body/mind connection beyond mere delusion( ala Cronenberg). Where these 'delusions' interact with each other in 'shared reality'...Just like Religion...look everybody its the Virgin Mary/alien/fairy/demon,,,then when you say, 'Look this fucking severed head isn't real'-then where is all this blood comming from- how the fuck did it just bite you!!!Oh and watch out the angel you just imagined didn't bring a condom!
Why was the song " perfect day" replaced. I know it probably has to do with royalties and copy rights, but the replacement of that song changed the feel of the picture. *confused*
Two men were stabbed and injured Sunday night while watching a horror film at the AMC Theater in Fullerton during what appears to be a random attack, police say.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m., officers were sent to the theater at 1000 S. Lemon St. after someone reported finding a bag with what appeared to be illegal substances, said Fullerton police Lt. Tom Basham.
While the officers were at the theater, people started running out of the theater showing "The Signal," including two men with blood on them, Basham said.
Just before people started running out in a panic, two men sitting in separate areas of the theater were randomly stabbed by an unknown man, Basham said.
"He started stabbing at the theater seat and then he stabbed the victim," Basham said. "As he fled, he stabbed another victim sitting near the exit."
Basham said the victims did not know each other or the suspect.
One man suffered a stab wound to the arm, which punctured into his chest and was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. The other man was also stabbed in the arm and taken to St. Jude Medical Center. Both are expected to survive.
The attacker, who is believed to have been kicked out of the theater earlier, escaped.
No arrest has been made, but police are following some leads.
"The Signal," a horror-comedy, is told in three parts from three perspectives, in which a mysterious transmission invades every cell phone, radio and TV, turning people into killers. One character estimates that "one out of every two people" are impulsively murdering the other one, according to reviews of the film.
Basham said the film was paused while police conducted their investigation. When it was resumed, the fist scene was a stabbing, he said.
This drinking game is to be played with The Signal.
The Signal Challenge: Drink continuously every time you see or hear The Signal.
1 drink – every time you see duct tape 1 drink – every time someone gets hit with something 1 drink – every time you see the word “Lewis” 1 drink – every time you see a canister of bug spray 1 drink -- every time you see Ben's anti-manly tattoo
Kill your beer: Every time someone says “The Crazy”
Fought the pedestrian nightmare of The Chinese Theater in Hollywood on Oscars weekend to catch The Signal. Amazing stuff, a huge inspiration for an indie filmmaker. Can't wait for what you guys come up with next.
This easily goes into my top five of 2008. I hope this movie opens doors for all of you and gets a wider release. Thank you for releasing it in Austin!
Alex, Jacob, Dan and Dave, It was great to see you last night at the premiere. I totally enjoyed The Signal! I am very proud to be a small part of the film, thanks for letting me kill some really fine actors...LOL. Congratulations on great movie Gents!!
