my mum and dad and my brother Warwick for being so brave through his illness wanting to protect his family and he never complained.
About me: I have just launched Australias first and only non-profit organisations in Australia supporting young adults (18-40) on their cancer journey.
In March 2005 I lost my beautiful brother Warwick to a brain tumour, he was 35.I noticed through research and my brothers own experience that there were some major gaps in the Australian public health system in relation to care and support for this specific age group, as patients,survivors and their family and friends.
These young adults with cancer face very unique challenges and issues to children and the elderly, its time they were addressed appropriately to make their journey less isolating and more comfortable so they have the strength, self esteem and support to fight this dreadful disease.
Through our website we plan to provide information/services and resources that suit the needs of a young adult on their cancer journey, we also plan to link all affected people together to form support networks around Australia.We will be holding some very exciting fundraising campaigns to create awareness and raise money for specific programs targeting this age group.We also plan to advocate for a new model of care being proposed nationally by medical groups and other charitable organisations.
