THE WHIRLING DERVISH: Caveat Emptor
Indie rock smoothed out on the noise pop tip with a post-punk appeal to it.
In the interest of promoting free and open-minded music mediums, please drop by the following internet-radio sites and give a free listen to our album and all of the other wonderful off-the-mainstream music available!
The Whirling Dervish is made up of three hard working young men living in various parts of Los Angeles, Ca. The trio has been playing music individually for the better part of their lives, but it wasn’t until playing, writing, drinking, and spreading their benevolence together as The Whirling Dervish that they found the equality and integrity needed at a group’s core to properly grow as artists. They are constantly evolving and challenging themselves artistically.
To date they still have trouble putting their sound into words. When a band strives to forge a sound that is truly unique; that breaks away from the doldrums of stagnant, formulated commercial radio rock, it is often difficult to describe that sound with a few words. Perhaps Xian Jones has provided the best description yet: “Indie rock smoothed out on the noise pop tip with a post-punk appeal to it”. As with all art, each listener’s impression is subjective. The kaleidoscope of influences that permeate The Whirling Dervish’s music elicits a vast array of comparisons; often times the listener concludes they just sound like The Whirling Dervish.
A key motivating and inspirational force in The Whirling Dervish is their drive to eradicate social injustice, hegemony, and corporate domination over the downtrodden. They have a soft spot in their heart for the underdog and a love for the abstract, both of which find their way into their lyrics. They are a band that gives a damn yet still knows how to have an insanely good time with friends and fans alike.
Built on a bedrock of friendship, The Whirling Dervish are determined to bring their music and their ethos everywhere; to liberate the masses from the clutches of boredom, apathy, cynicism, and despair.
I found you on the Chaser's (brought to you by Scolari's...) page. Too bad I missed the show. Your sounds are angular, muscular, atmospheric and even a bit delicate at times, maybe where The Smiths and Hüsker Dü collide, all of which I heard in the song 'Male Temperament'.
I think we'd fit well to do some shows together, down here or up there or wherever.?.
Hello you Whirlers.. can somebody actually be a "whirler". I like it. Anyway, just thought of you guys the other day and stoppin by to say hi! Hope all is well!
You guys are wonderful. We're out of commish from Jun15th-July10th after this it shall be, as it was before.....ON. Btw I had a dream where Plane was the background music to the whole thing, it was lyrically contextual too, making it even more bizzare.
Thank you...we try to dig on everyones interest's or the sounds they enjoy,..We like what you had going on your page...and figured we would take the chance, you would like what we enjoy the most...and thats make music...but for the most part... now that we got that horrible and cheesy statement out of the way....this looks like another typical, but somewhat long band comment... But heck at least its a comment... Right?
What up Dervishes! Why dont you start planning your shows around my social calander so that I can finally see you play? I mean, is that to much to ask?? Is that high maintence or something?
It was nice to meet you guys yesterday! I hope the "hot" toddy's helped the throat Justin. I like the music. Hope to see you play sometime. Come by for more "hot" Toddy's today if you guys are around.
