  • Bio

The Wronglers (Warren Hellman (banjo/vocals), Nate Levine (guitar), Bill (mandolin) & Krista Martin (fiddle), Heidi Clare (fiddle/vocals) and Colleen Browne (bass/vocals)) is an old-time band, born at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 2006. Over the years they have played around the Bay Area, opening for the likes of Steve Earle and Gillian Welch, as well as nationally at festivals such as South by Southwest, Old Settler's Festival, Strawberry Festival and The Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis. Jimmie Dale Gilmore of Lubbock, TX released his first album of many in 1988 and his heartfelt singing style, with its masterfully understated phrasing, is known in some circles as "sagebrush soul," a genre that he is credited with creating. And, in addition to his long, distinguished solo career, with its three Grammy nominations, Gilmore is a longtime member of The Flatlanders which also features fellow Lubbock-ites Joe Ely and Butch Hancock. For some time Gilmore has been wanting to go back to a time before country music got really commercialized and he saw his opportunity with The Wronglers. Hellman, better known as the benefactor of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, got to know Gilmore through HSB and they have joined forces to make "Heirloom Music" which will be out this Spring. Come see a sneak preview before they head off to South By Southwest for the official debut.
