"excellent…monolithic slabs of stoner doom…ridiculously heavy." - ALARM
"At their fastest, ZOROASTER could pass for half-speed Motorhead. At their slowest, the seconds between notes inch into double-digits. Titanic heaviness...in the right light, those wide-open riffs hide worlds inside." - VILLAGE VOICE
Summoned by the mighty sludge of The Melvins, the mysticism of Celtic Frost and the nihilistic blues of EyeHateGod, ZOROASTER formed in Atlanta, GA in 2003 out of the need for “sedation by high volumes and low frequencies". Creating devastating, dirge-ridden doom that erupts into heavyweight grooves and transcendental musical atmospheres, ZOROASTER's sound has been compared to "having 10,000 ton granite slabs dropped on your head from a height of several miles".
In 2005, the band released their first recorded music, which quickly drew the attention of Nachtmystium frontman Blake Judd’s uber-kvlt underground label Battle Kommand Records, which released the tracks as the band's eponymous debut EP. The 2007 LP Dog Magic took ZOROASTER’s deafening sound to powerful new highs and spectral, heavy lows. The addition of left-of-center instrumentation (including Moog synths, theremins, ominous vocal choirs and a brass section to boot) allowed the record to simultaneously crush, swing and spook, seducing primal urges while inducing dark dreams of a David Lynch-ian world.
ZOROASTER features a live show that has been described as "an obliteration of the senses", earning the
three piece the title of “Atlanta’s loudest band". The trio has toured relentlessly across the U.S., sharing the stage with a diverse array of artists including Big Business, Nachtmystium, High on Fire, Oxbow, Saviours and
Bastard Noise. The group has met to shining praise from both metal and indie rock press alike since its formation, receiving accolade for its deafening power, use of left-of-center instrumentation (which has included Moog synths, theremins, ominous vocal choirs and even brass sections) and unique take on heavy music.
Now, the mighty ZOROASTER returns with Voice of Saturn, its most accomplished work of sound to date. Recorded at The Living Room in Atlanta (The Black Lips, Mastodon) with engineer Ed Rawls, Voice of Saturn pushes ZOROASTER’s heady mix of mammoth metal and psychotropic shoegaze to skyscraping new heights. From the galloping post-Sabbath rock of the roll out track “Spirit Molecule” to the concrete street cleaning of “Lamen of the Master Therion” and through to the tribal percussive vertebrae of the album’s “hidden” closer, Voice of Saturn administers in-the-red levels of both the band’s mysticism and barbarism in spades. The record features a guest appearance from friend and fellow Atlantean Brent Hinds of Mastodon, who contributes a searing guitar solo and backing vocals to the song “White Dwarf”.
ZOROASTER is: Will Fiore (guitar / vocals), Brent Anderson (bass/ vocals) and Dan Scanlan (drums /
